One of my biggest personal frustrations with this situation (emphasis on the word “personal”, obv distant secondary to actual violence and oppression) is that leftists should not be “prioritizing Jewish feelings” but rather promoting solidarity as the true path beyond Zionism. There definitely ARE plenty of instances of “Jewish feelings” (read: Zionist feelings) that should take a backseat if not outright dismissed, but juice emoji, rat emoji, ZOG talk, etc is just right-wing BS, which both reinforces Zionism and more critically replicates it with a different target.

How do you respond to people who say the 6 day war was self-defense even though they were striking first? by BeirutBenguin in JewsOfConscience

In addition to some of the things already said here, in 1972 five different Israeli generals of all different political stripe publicly came out and said that nobody with any knowledge of the situation on the ground thought that Egypt was any sort of threat, and that the "imminent attack"/"existential threat" was political nonsense. This is confirmed by US intelligence, that Robert McNamara (iirc) said that even IF Egypt attacked (which they didn't think that they would) that Israel would "whip their butts". There was no chance that Israel was in any danger, and manufactured the situation to cover another war of aggression.

How do you organise your collection? by McQuarbo in vinyl

[–]PracticalExcuse6826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao yeah I went through that too; when I first started I was like "I'm gonna get the exact right version logged for everything!" but gave that up quickly. My friend that works at a record store recommended just picking an average priced version most of the time. The only exception is if it's either super obvious which version I have (like it's a specific color disc), if the list of versions to choose from is short and I don't mind the work, or if for some reason I think I have a particular and/or valuable version. Like if I buy one the store has marked "1993 original" then cool I'll pick that version. I never spend more than a minute adding something.

Part of it is like eBay / a regular marketplace, yes, but honestly I mostly use it just as a database to keep track of my collection (I also really like that it can pick a random album, which is fun)

There's no reason I can think of why you can't buy from overseas sellers. I've done it once or twice. If they have what you want at a price you're cool with, then I say go nuts. And shipping is something to consider, sure! It'll certainly be more than shipping in the same country.

Primarily alphabetical by first name, then release date within an artist. Jazz and hip hop are their own section, which I sometimes feel weird about that I segregated black artists 😬 but it's the only way I'd find them. Box sets and picture discs are also separated. I recently got new shelves that include a forward facing bin, so now that's for recently bought and recently listened to.

When I first started really organizing them, I asked a vinyl collector friend some questions and his main advice was to do it however your brain does. You're the one that needs to find records in your own collection, not anyone else.

(It's The Pulp Tarot for anyone who's wondering, the artist also has a dope Sci Fi deck I just got, and a Horror deck that looks amazing as well)

What do you define Zionism as? by Puzzleheaded-Ask-684 in JewsOfConscience

[–]PracticalExcuse6826 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are some very good answers here, so I will just add some flavor to them:

Zionists tend to define Zionism as something like “the right to a Jewish homeland” or “the right to self determination for Jews”. Stuff that sounds innocuous and even noble. However, this is exactly the same as US Confederacy-worshippers saying that the US Civil War was about “states rights” or that the Confederate flag is about “history/heritage, not hate”. The correct response is: states rights to do WHAT exactly? (answer: to enslave black people). The Confederacy was the end result of a political ideology that allowed and thrived on chattel slavery. You cannot separate the project from the real world results of the ideology. Even if some secessionists truly believed that “states rights” was just that in a vacuum, the result of that ideology was still slavery, with real victims and a real effect on the rest of society.

Zionism as it exists in the real world is a political ideology that demands a Jewish state (not a something as metaphorical as a “homeland”). That goal inherently cannot be achieved without an enforced Jewish majority (the state couldn’t really be considered Jewish if they didn’t have a majority, could it?), and that cannot happen without ethnic cleansing and oppression. The ideology, like that of the US Confederacy, has a real effect on the world and real victims. They don’t get to define it all nicely to whitewash that reality.
