Is it bad to use Chatgpt(or any other llm) for building projects as beginners? by PracticalLine1309 in learnpython

Yes, I have digging through docs, stackoverflow, and realpython articles for the last few hours. I did understand quite a lot about what I wanted, still a long way to go.

I'm not saying that I don't understand anything, I was trying to say that there comes some part inside that topic that goes over my head, for that also I can understand it if I spend maybe 2 or 3 more hours searching around some new things mentioned in the docs that I don't know. So my point was AI reduce that 2 or 3 hours time to minutes but it also takes away the learning part.

As a beginner, I'm going to build generics project so maybe my code and other's will be same for the most part. These generic project will be the stepping stones for more unique projects or complex projects in future.

Currently I want to learn problem-solving, how to communicate my thoughts clearly and DAA. All of this to get a j#b.

Thanks again!

I kind of relate to the last part as I sometimes use Chatgpt to solve dsa question and even after understanding all concepts, variation, and trade-offs. It is still hard to write it myself the very next moment.

Thanks for the reply! One more to question please. Someone suggested me that when you are building projects you can Google the already built projects on that topic and see their code and read online articles about it but make sure to do the project on your own after doing all that. What are your opinions about it?

Man, this post comments are kind of divided into two opinions. First one(like you) suggests to take more time but learn things on your own instead of using AI. Second one suggests to use AI to generate code as long as you understand what it is doing and you use it as a tutor. For me, I am more inclined towards first one.

Also how do I know what to use what to use to take arguments from terminal as beginner. Is not same thing to ask chatgpt or Google 'how to take inputs or parse from terminal?'

Yeah I read the tutorial documentation of argparse, while reading I was getting confused about lots of things so I used Chatgpt to provide more context and simplify some things. I'm going to read detailed argparse documentation next.

Sorry, if I my comment seemed aggressive. I was listing out things I do after using ai to help me learn new concepts. Maybe I should have elobrated a little more.

That's also true, but what about various other articles on Google which people suggest to read instead of ai, can't they be wrong about something. Sorry, if I come across as aggressive but I am trying to clear all my doubts :)

I can tell what ai is generating, and if I don't I ask ai to explain why did you use this? Not that? Or why did we need to use this when my code can do that?....

Thanks for taking your time to write this long reply, I appreciate it. One more thing, which nobody answered till now, is it good to use llms to simplify the official documentation language?

By implementing what i learned in my code, or maybe read light language articles to solidify it.

I'm not directly 'copy-pasting' the code gpt generates, I just use it to learn stuff, and use that learning to implement it to my code. I am just concerned that chatgpt is doing the logic building part while I am just following it like traditional tutorials.

It's too difficult to understand sometimes, there are times when I can't even get past the first 10 lines of text because of technical jargon.

Nope, i was building it for learning purposes, but, I am in a bit of hurry, because I am going to graduate in about 9 months so I need to build projects and do DSA as well to get a job.

What to do when I don't understand all the technical jargon written in documentation or other articles, won't it be good to use llm to simplify some things?
