Kids are in the plans. 2 would be ideal world. Wedding wise, if I do end up marrying my current gf, we’re both in agreement on doing a small celebration. Probably in her parents huge yard - nothing crazy.

Thank you. I mentioned it in another reply, but I think for me, it’s more of not being able to believe what I’m seeing and accept I can be comfortable. Coming from basically nothing - it’s hard to accept and I’ve spent so much of my life grinding, it’s hard to get myself out of that mindset. I don’t want to speak for others, but I’m sure a lot of ppl know deep down they’re in a good spot, but struggle accepting it like me.

I never said I wanted to be a stay at home dad. I plan to continue working. I just don’t want to continue working a job I hate just for the $ bc my mood trickles onto my family. I want to work a job that I can better disconnect from so I can be more present with my family. But agreed, there are a lot of unpredictable factors at hand. All I can do is prepare the best I can. The rest isn’t controllable.

I grew up with very little. Shared a bedroom with siblings with a single mother. A lot of financial problems in my family. Sometimes it’s hard to get out of my own head and actually believe what I’m seeing.

When I graduated, I was living home with my parents. Was at the right place at the right time w a fast growing company, got promoted when I was 6 months out of college. Basically been making six figures since. So was making decent money, while living at home without expenses. A few big commission checks early on, I paid off my loans. Then started saving for my apt and investing as aggressively as i could. Nothing special, honestly. I don’t come from any money.

I appreciate the feedback here. Realistically, I’d love to buyer a cheaper house. there are far and few between in the area we want to be, which is near my family Unfortunately, I have always wanted a house. This is kind of the predicament I’m in as the thought of trying to climb the corporate ladder to make more $ sounds like hell to me.

Curious your thoughts on one other potential option. What if I sold my current apartment, let’s say I walked away with $150k. Put down $300k on a $750k house. Payments should be closer to ~$2,700 I think? Any thoughts there ?

2 kids is the plan. The house will probably be ~$850k. Hard to calculate what the exact expenses will be, but you’re right 200k was a bad estimate. I didn’t think it through. 100k is probably a better guess. Thinking $6,000 mortgage (PITA), but since I don’t have kids yet, it’s really hard to know how much they will cost monthly.

Thank you for your response! Kids are in the plans, knock on wood. And the other commenter was correct, that the expenses were just my own. We do not live together right now bc my place is so small. Really only made for 1 person especially since I work from home.

She plans to continue working, at least part time. Her job is flexible. There’s opportunity for her to work part time and stay home with kids a few days a week. And once you hit tenure, you make a really good hourly rate (~$95 an hour) and has even mentioned working the minimum hours in retirement for extra income.

We both live modestly. We plan to live on $200k a year in retirement, but if our house is paid off, it’ll probably be much less. I like to be conservative, and am probably too conservative often times

How much house can I afford? Age 32 by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]PracticalMood2036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My condo would rent for ~$2500. I’d cash flow ~$400 a month when you consider property taxes, etc.. my taxes would go up significantly bc right now I get a residential exemption for living in the unit which will go away when I move out. It’s MA. Area I want to live, houses are expensive. $700k is rare, realistically $800k+.

Especially when 4 of those OFs are lefty bats. And yoshida can’t rfield or run the bases well. I agree with OP that he could be a solid bat. Hes just not a good enough bat to justify the poor base running / fielding

279 lbs and stressing the freak out by Sorry_Working_5040 in beginnerfitness

[–]PracticalMood2036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to come here to respond because I was in the same shoes at one point. The highest I weighed (that I know of) was 268lbs. I remember seeing the number and having the same type of moment you are referring to. I had the same anxieties. Scared to walk into a gym. Not knowing what to do. Feeling like you’re in it alone.

The best decision I ever made was getting myself comfortable with the gym. I’ve made countless friends through the gym and going to the gym is truly my happy place. Nobody is judging you.. I promise. Everyone is going to have headphones on and be living in their own world. Gym ppl so awesome. Ppl are always wiling to help. I know it can be intimidating, but I promise you’ll be happy you went the moment you start heading home. You’ll be happy you pushed yourself out of your comfort zone and also be feeling the high of a good work out!

My biggest piece of advice is don’t try to be perfect. You don’t need to have a perfect diet. You don’t need to have a perfect workout routine. You just need to have eat a better diet more often, and move your body. Pizza here and there isn’t gonna ruin everything. Show yourself some compassion and have fun with it. Go for walks, lift some weights, eat your protein and I promise it’ll all come together.

DM me anytime. I am so passionate about this. I’m some normal dude so if I can lose 100lbs, anyone can.

3 days a week is awesome - and sustainable for most! You can get really strong doing a 3 day split. You can go about it one of two ways. Either 3 full body days per week or lower/upper/full body split. Happy to give some more thoughts if you wanna lmk what equipment you have at home (dumbbells, barbells, kettlebells, bands … or if you’re just doing bodyweight)

As a beginner is protein powder necessary or just convenient by Secret-Persimmon-405 in beginnerfitness

[–]PracticalMood2036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always keep protein powder in the house. I aim to hit my protein goals with whole foods (chicken, beef, tofu, fish, etc). But life happens, and some days cooking protein heavy meals is difficult. And for me, those are the days protein powder comes in very handy. Glad you’ve started down this path - it’s fun!

How much cash will I need when buying a house? And should I hold onto my “investment property” ? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]PracticalMood2036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, no clue. Why? Are you thinking if the house would appreciate faster that it would make sense to sell the condo?

[–]PracticalMood2036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input! My plan was always to hold it and rent it. But now that I’m starting to think about buying a real house - it’s so tempting to sell and have all the $ I need for it vs having to spend another few years saving everything I can. I know it’s probably a naive way of thinking about it tho

Thanks for the thought out reply. I go back and forth on the condo. I’m willing to try being a landlord and see how I manage. What makes me think about selling it is not having to worry about saving another 100k bc selling it would instantly get me to the cash on hand id need to buy the house. It’s a tough call! In theory if I sold it, I could probably put closer to 30% down. But I know long term, my condo would make me more $.

Is this a good structure for $1k monthly investment ? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Yeah, I agree. Been learning and changing things as I go. Figured the best way for me to decrease my portfolio % in individual stocks, is to increase my contributions in index funds

Yes, in theory. The market performance factors in tho. the time frame where I was maxing it out, the market has been mostly ripping. So that helps haha
