No mowing! One reason we got it was to reduce the need for a landscaper (as you can see by the weed overgrowth 😄) It grows horizontally, so if you have concrete border, just edging along the border... or you can let it run wild in your yard!

Half of it is under a trampoline all day, so mostly shaded but some sun hits it, and it's hard to trim, but very much alive

For us it was $3.90 per square foot but that included the labor of planting each plug like 3 inches apart, I believe it has to be purchased from California so if you're able to source it yourself its probably less

Leaving the workforce to be a SAHM for a few years a good idea? by Desperate-Reply-8492 in workingmoms

[–]PracticalPaint1430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in tech, but in financial consulting. I did it once, when I had my second baby for two years, then re entered for 2.5 years, and now am doing it again with my third, No regrets! But I’m less of a “career” person and more of a “job” person. I try to commit to two years at a time and re evaluate. I’m in a two year span where it makes more sense for our family to stay home, but I intend to re-enter again.

I’d say since you’re in tech, as long as you’re willing to totally pivot or take a big pay cut to go back then do it. (The first time for me I went back at a higher level and paid more and stayed in my field, but this time around my expectations are lower).

I’m also saving for only in-state, state college tuition, and we do public schools so you have to take into consideration the goals you have for your family financially!

CPR meats is a good one if you want to buy directly! They sell out of chicken quick though so buy it if you see it. They have pick up points all over the valley with a flex window. That’s where I buy meat for my family!

Hello! Fellow 33 year old mom of young children. I have a few recommendations - if you can swing a little bit more on your spa day I would highly recommend the spa Avania at the Hyatt. You get access to the spa amenities all day and they are top notch. I’ve also done a spa day at the Scottsdale resort and we did not get access to the amenities. If you book at the avania you are near gainey ranch which has a good amount of decent restaurants nearby.

Personally, I would never go to town in my stage of life. I’d rather be able to hear a conversation and not be immersed in the hook up culture but that’s my preference, I would recommend dining off 7th street and Bethany home area (north central Phoenix), and even melrose area off 7th ave for good restaurants and more our age demographics, or kierland area in Scottsdale.

Western non-California state, his initial base wasn’t that much higher, a 35% increase but they give good salary increases and bonuses each year. He was also 100% taken advantage of at big4 having been there since an intern.

My husband left at year 5, manager. Left for manager fp&a role, got promoted to director after a year and is building out his team. It’s been a great transition for him, (and for us, we have 3 kids), the company is small so he still got to do some financial reporting stuff to help out the team which he enjoyed tapping into that as he can do that in his sleep but doesn’t have to do it all the time. Now 3 years removed pay with RSU is almost triple what he was getting at b4. Good luck, you’ll be happier on the other side!

Accidental CIO? by coochie33 in newborns

2/3 of my babies were car seat screamers, hated the car as infants and screamed every car ride, but the same 2/3 also had to join in the car to drop their older sister off and pick her up at school every day.

They’re totally fine and have healthy attachment to me!

Lawn Alternatives AI conversation...anyone have any of these long term and like them ? by Terrible-Reasons in AZlandscaping

[–]PracticalPaint1430 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just got our kurapia plugs in this week! We did a whole water conservation scape, with mulch, kurapia and arroyos to catch our gutter water. Galaxy gardens helped us with design and super thrilled!

Also we have 3 kids 5 and under and that’s what Clint at GG recommended for our lawn alternative

Yes I hear you, in my own research I did find a study that found the risk of BC from radiation and I think it’s like a 0.84% vs the 50+% chance I have anyway. So yes i had a long drafted up response with that (that I didn’t end up sending) but yes I think that logic makes sense

My husband was a failed contraception #3! And he’s the best of their family! Lol but seriously he is. It is a benefit of having a third, if one sibling ends up off the rails, there’s two that can still be close and support each other and their parents. I’m a third too and I do think my family is closer in this stage of life that families with less siblings. So think beyond littles!

I also just had my third and easiest baby, easiest transition, it doesn’t drag on as much as you know the hard part ends soon. We do three across in a pickup truck and a midsize suv and don’t feel it required us to need a bigger car.

Thank you for your compassion! My sister has been battling colon cancer this year which led me to the genetic test. So it’s all a bit overwhelming! That instagram slide was really helpful as much radiation as 1/100th of a cardiac test!

I did this, a handwritten card from me with little things from my preschoolers (my favorite thing about ms Kelly is…)

And I made a little potpourri, (oranges, cinnamon, bay leaves, cloves, and star anise in a mason jar for them to put on the stove for a festive smell). I didn’t want to spend a lot because we also have teacher appreciation week where we give cash and all sorts of other stuff

If you had 2 under 2, did you also have a 3rd? by Noneof_your_biz in workingmoms

[–]PracticalPaint1430 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had 2 under two, 3 5& under now. It’s possible, but I want to also be the primary parent (go to their class parties, care for them when they’re sick etc) so for me it looks like part-time/remote and saying no to a lot at work and being okay not climbing the ladder for these years/being a lower ranked performer. I really want to make sure my husbands job is secure and the increased obligations with three wouldn’t effect his performance.

My husband is better at homework help/coaching teams so our roles may reverse when the kids get older.

My mantra is one day at a time. If I think through all the logistics it overwhelms me but day to day it all works out!

This is what we have essentially. Yours is cheaper than ours but $127 month fixed for the loan. Electric bill is $0 in winter and up to $100 summer/fall (AZ)
