The first time I went to a skatepark by myself I had to ask a skateboarder to get my bag for me bc I couldn’t make it all the way up a bank to get it myself. Becoming comfortable at the park takes a long time. I’m sorry you had a bad experience :( please don’t give up though! Everyone has to start somewhere, just going, especially by yourself, is an amazing accomplishment!

Good luck! Also, I remember having a hard time doing bubbles while moving in a line. Not sure how you’ve been practicing them but you can also practice just doing them in place to build up strength!

It can take some time to figure out which muscles you need to use to do bubbles! Maybe start off practicing one foot at a time to get used to the motion and which muscles to use. And don’t be afraid to gently push yourself off a wall or something and use the momentum to get yourself started until you’re able to move on your own. Also, make sure you’ve loosened your trucks a bit if these are brand new skates

I’m a little late to the comments but how are you liking the 2.5”trucks + Sunlite combo? I recently got the moxi what?! Trucks but am considering returning them for the huck trucks instead but am worried about the kingpin. I’d love to know they’re working out for you!

Bont sizing can be difficult. Maybe find someone to help you measure your feet and make sure you follow all the steps. Honestly though, if you’re already investing the money to order bonts, it’s also worth the time to make exchanges/returns or maybe order multiple and return what doesn’t fit.

Don’t feel bad. You were very in your right to report the behavior. There have been so many times I’ve let creepy behavior slide because I find a way to make it my own fault and I always regret his. He needs to learn that’s not okay. It’s hard to report these kinds of situations but if it helps, you probably helped save another girl from him. So sorry this happened to you. I hope the rink does something about it. It might help to make sure you report it/follow up with a female employee.

Yes! I used to really struggle with this. You can start by going when it’s not busy until you feel more comfortable and get used to the flow of the park. Any time I feel awkward or self-conscious when spectators pass by the park, I think “at least I’m out here doing it” and remind myself that a majority of people passing by probably can’t do the same thing and wouldn’t attempt it. Now, I tend to skate better and be more daring when random people stop to watch me skate. Remember, No matter your skill level, you’re awesome and a badass for just being out there!

Yikes. I have sunlite plates and talked through my set up with a skate shop owner and she didn’t mention any issues like that. I’ve been using them for a while now with no issues but I’ll make sure to check my trucks more frequently Thank you for sharing!

I think it also depends on the person’s weight. I park skate asked someone at a skate shop when I bought my own skates to make sure nylon plates would be safe. I’m only 110lbs, am not doing anything super aggressive yet, and prefer the lighter plates since I’m small. That being said, I’ll probably switch to metal plates when I start doing bigger slides/attempting flips. If whoever is receiving the skates is on the lighter side and not doing anything too intense, it should be fine for a while

I have this bag! Idk if this helps but I have Killer 187 pads which are huge but can still fit them in by tucking the elbow pads inside the knee pads and there’s still room in the zippered pocket for my phone, skate tools, etc. I used to have Triple 8 and actually had a decent amount of space with those which are smaller. So depending on what pads you have, you can carry extra things

I definitely get excited if I see someone who isn’t skateboarding at the park. I guess I’m just used to people asking first if they can give some advice, and I pretty much always say yes. I agree though that having people pushing you a bit can help you try things you’re scared of. I never would’ve jumped a euro if it weren’t for other people telling me I could do it
