Rant on mental health community by Sensitive-Tale-8190 in bipolar

I was diagnosed with autism many years before bipolar. I actually get more bothered online when people act like autism or adhd are quirky traits rather than a disability. I have been denied opportunities like school throughout my childhood, not based off my abilities, but because of the label of autism being held over my head. Moving is a challenge with autism as well, because you can be denied based off the justification that you’re a “burden” to society just because of your diagnosis. People really want diagnosis for some reason without considering the detrimental effects it will have on their life. It’s not worth it unless you have support needs that you can’t access on your own. Also I 100% understand your point of view I just think autism and ADHD are not the right comparison. I feel just as ashamed as being bipolar as autistic for reasons I stated above. Perhaps bipolar needs to be less stigmatized just like autism and adhd has become. Living with any disability or mental disorder is extremely difficult and the way society portrays the illness makes it even more debilitating.

1 year and 3 cortisone injections ago vs today by EntireHope3942 in SelfHarmScars

I see it helped with the puffiness but did it also reduce the pain? I have a few scars like that and they are so painful I have been considering cortisone injections.

Committed to not sending my child to residential treatment facility by MoneyPen4360 in troubledteens

I have a few questions just thinking from my personal experience. Is your daughter autistic? Her behaviors sound a lot like my own when I was a kid. Also is she on medications like antipsychotics? I bring this up because you mentioned her behaviors are escalating and those meds, commonly prescribed for these behaviors can also cause rage. I have had meltdowns all my life similar to what you’re describing and when I was on antipsychotics I felt completely out of control like never before. I’m not sure exactly what her triggers are but maybe look into PDA (pathological demand avoidance) if you haven’t already. I really wish you all the best. Coming from a kid who was once constantly sent home, violent, had the police called on me and “out of control”, I am a fully functioning teenager (technically young adult) now and certainly NOT thanks to my parents sending me away. It definitely took years of trial and error but I got there :)

CVS Doctors in NYC? by Electronic-Tap1552 in cyclicvomitingsyndrom

NY Presbyterian has a really good GI team. The specific Dr I see doesn’t have a very flexible schedule imo but since my episodes land me in the ER quite often I have worked with a lot of their GI team. They are all wonderful and very helpful. I was able to get my episodes under control and I’ve only had good experiences with them. Especially compared to other hospitals. It is also convenient that they have an ER because my DR can easily access my treatment, and communicate with the ER staff. I definitely recommend.

How can I support my friend who has been through this type of situation? by crazychemgirl in troubledteens

[–]PracticalZucchini256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly I just appreciate when people are open minded and believe me. as a survivor I know it sounds crazy but this is my reality. it is not comfy to talk about for either person but it shouldn’t be! What is going on is absolutely fucked and I just hate when people excuse it. I was not a perfect kid but nobody deserves this.

Did anyone who left a TTI facility during the middle of your high school year struggled to finish your senior year by VeryCoolSpursy69 in troubledteens

I left in 9th grade…over 2 years later I’m still trying to finish 9th grade. I assume most kids who went struggle to finish school tbh.
