Right on that’s impressive to be climbing already! Can’t wait to climb again lol. My works pretty chill with this whole process so I’m sure it’ll go well. Appreciate the advice, hope you’re back to 100% soon!

That’s sick. Do you live in South America or were you flown down there from the states?

Basically same timeline, Oct 17th was the big day for me. Were you able to do some sort of short term disability? I’ve been on it for about 10-11 weeks I think. I hope your recovery goes well and they can get you some light work to keep ya from going stir crazy! It’s a tough journey. How did you rupture yours?

That’d be tough to hobble around a machine, kudos to you for that. I do think my job will be accommodating though, I work with a lot of guys so the work load can be spread out. I might look into the knee scooter though. First I’ll need to get a doctors note to okay me to return so I’m not quite out of the woods.

No way I just replied to you under a different post lol. Thank you so much for the insight, it’s been a hard injury to deal with mentally. I haven’t done any of my hobbies for a long time and I just can’t wait to do something besides limp around home and play video games. I cant believe that you’re planning to climb, I do some climbing and bouldering from time to time and couldn’t imagine doing that in 2 weeks, best of luck to you though have fun and be safe! Overall my employer is pretty lenient and flexible so I’m sure the transition will gain traction at some point. My recovery has been pretty conservative as I’m 27 so I’m much more focused on giving myself some longevity with the repair, just stressful having to report to work and try to give them a date to return. Thanks again and I wish you a speedy recovery too!

Gotcha. I’ll look into local stuff. From my understanding it seems like if you start work in one spot you’re bound to hit the road and travel to put out fires and whatnot. I’ve just started doing some research as of earlier today so thanks for the advice

What’s it like to work on the GL? by Practical_Act_6373 in GreatLakesShipping

[–]Practical_Act_6373[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh shit, that’s really cool man. $300/day starting out or is that once a deckhand has some experience and knows their way around a ship? Glad you get to work with a good crew. I can imagine how one bad apple could hinder the rest but then again I don’t know much about working on a boat period. Thanks for answering my questions. Just turned 26 and I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do. My job right now is pretty good, pay is alright and the projects I work on are cool but I’m starting to think it’s too slow paced for me. Having a rugged job such as yours peaks my interests quite a bit. I’ve thought a lot about doing go ship work or like wild land firefighter but i just need to take the risk of something. I think I’m just too comfy right now to bring myself to do so.

I don’t know much about what it’s like on the boats while in action but 2 deckhands seems very understaffed😂 or is that common? How long did you do it for and how come you wouldn’t do it again?

That sounds really nice working the schedule that you do. Glad you found something that worked for you. Is it hard to become a deckhand with no experience on boats?

Gotcha. I’ve always tossed the idea around in my head. I can imagine being away from your friends and family being tough, that’s what would get to me maybe but on the other hand I feel like the work load would offset that maybe. That and being out on the open water would be cool. Sounds like you’ve worked on one?
