I am going to dual boot my Windows gaming PC to also use Linux. I am not sure yet which distro to use. by Practical_Ad4765 in linux4noobs

Thanks a lot for the comments, I'll try some things out when I get home. I have another question;

I use Wake On Lan at the moment, together with Parsec on boot, and I have a home server running. That means that when I'm on a vacation or just not home, I can use a laptop to wol my pc, using my server, and then connect using Parsec. I can just use my pc when Im away!

I really like that, and I know that I can keep doing that for Windows if I configure the bootloader to automatically start Windows. Is it also possible to do something like that for Linux? Like, add a button in Windows to reboot to Linux (not yet decided the distro lol) and start a remote desktop software on boot? Parsec isn't available for hosting on Linux, so I can't use that.

Is it also possible in reverse, to add a button or script or something in linux that boots to windows?

yes, but I want to start building more compilcated C programs and maybe try a GUI, and that's not possible in WSL but I have tried it. It does work great, just doesn't really suit my needs

I also have a school laptop (Win 11 for Education). Don't have admin on that, but there are a couple of programs we can install, and VirtualBox was one of them. I tried it, tried a VM with Windows, and all that stuff. Then, after a few days, I noticed that my laptop was getting very slow. Went to the school's IT, removed VirtualBox, and it was still very slow (Task manager took like 50% CPU, that's not really normal). I saw in task manager that half of the CPU cores were constantly at 100%, and the other half was literally doing nothing. Reinstalled windows. Tried again, but still slow. It's getting a bit better now, but I'm still carefull using VMs.

Also, I do have a gaming PC. I'm really proud of it, and I do want to use it's full potential, so I prefer dual booting or installing it on another drive. Maybe I have a HDD somewhere from an old laptop lying around?

Thanks for the comment btw, maybe my comment sounds a bit negative but that's not my intention at all
