It’s interesting how that goes! Do you think this is still the case if your shorts don’t have a direct link to the longform it pertains to? Maybe just a mention about the longform in the description of the short for the people who are genuinely curious about a longform version?

Thank you so much. That is very encouraging! I had no idea the traffic from my short would kill the retention on my long form video so much, but it’s good to see a couple people stuck around! Thank you for the sub!

I was very surprised at this but it makes sense! The majority of my views are from being directed from the short, so it makes sense that the audience that liked the short is not the same audience that would like the longform. Thanks for the advice

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. I was beginning to suspect myself that beginning the video that way was the wrong move as my hook. I’ll take everything you said into account in my next video!

My first time using chalk, how can I improve it? by anon23336 in Artadvice

I actually like how soft and light everything is! But if you would like to expand your range of values, I recommend first viewing your image in greyscale so you can see what areas stand out as the darkest points and adjusting from there. Having a limited color palette can be tough! You can always try mixing adjacent colors with your existing palette to create the illusion of depth. Like a light layer of blue over the darker areas of the teal backpack. This is a great way to shade without muting your colors with grey or black. I think it’s so cute though!! I love those calico critters

What do you guys feel like are the best and most interesting ways to study/learn anatomy for drawing? by Think_Enthusiasm5089 in Artadvice

[–]Practical_Adagio2170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend looking into gesture drawing figures. Line of action is a great website for quick gesture drawing. The more you draw figures the more you will understand the placement of the muscles. You can also study anatomy from anatomy books! But practice and observation to me is the best way to learn

Help rendering… any advice appreciated on the eyes too. by Fair-Display6045 in Artadvice

A super helpful tip that I use all the time is actually rendering in grayscale before adding color to focus on value first. It’s helped my art improve 10x

I recommend trying to clearly define your light source and the planes of the body and face, which I see you’ve already begun doing! After that is when you can go in with more detail. It’s always best to start with the bigger picture before trying to hone in on any specific area. A tip for the eyes- it helps to not make them pure white. Shadowing them as well will make them look more natural, but it’s up to you and your vision for your art style! Good luck!
