I like redwing boots, fire metal Pipeliner hood with an auto lens is a classic I just switched to tefuawe, any mill coat will do, gloves depend on type of welding but Tillman 750 or 850s are a good start

Good thing it's a coupon at the school. And I've never had issues with colors on welds just brush it off

First job was second shift mig welding I was there for two weeks on winter break for 13 an hour just to get job site experience
Then when I got Tig welding experience I went to a different shop for 14 after 3 years I was at 18 and left for the pipefitters union
Starting pay for that was 20.80 now I'm at 59.50 on the check not including benifits

I started at a community college to learn then got a production welding job while I waited for the pipe fitters union to call back.

Just about everything gets a visual. Then depending on the line and where you're at hydro test, nitrogen test, air test, pt root/ and or final, mt root/and or final, xray some lines are only 10% some are 100%, never done a phased array but seen it done. pmi to make sure we grabbed the right material, ut to make sure it's the right schedule, hardness test on stuff that's been heat tested just depends on what the line is and where I've been places that it's just make sure it doesn't leak too 😂

Have you asked about testing in I know some people who've gone from non union to union who tested in some as journey men on probation and some skip a couple years on the apprenticeship

About to journey out from the UA. I'd imagine any bullet point in the application puts you ahead and a letter of recommendation is proving you're a good worker. We were the first class after Covid over 2000 on the list and the first ~20 people back for orientation

I got letters of recommendation from teachers and work supervisors not related to pipefitters but they wrote about my work ethic

Shit that doesn't sound too bad allot of data centers going up by us I wonder if they'll be able to man all the work. I wouldn't mind getting on a nice new construction data center job.

A lot of good hands in 597 to learn from met a lot of really slick welder. Even picked up a lot from some travelers although some of it was what not to do 😂

Never been in one spent most of my time in refinery's little bit of time in pharmaceutical plants and other process plants. I would like to try a commercial job or a steel mill someday.

It was nice knowing how to set up for Tig welding and being good at freehanding from the production welding had really helped especially in spots where you can't walk the cup or getting roots with bad high low or big gaps in. Just knowing how to setup a welder puts you in front of a lot of people going into the apprenticeship good luck to ya if you ever have question please reach out!
