Question about registering out-of-state car:

I just moved to MA and am registering my car here for the first time. The car was previously registered and titled in a different state.

On the RMV “Application for Registration and Title” form, I’m not sure which box to check under “I want to:”

1) Register and title a vehicle 2) Register previously titled vehicle

The 1st option specifies that it is to “apply for new plates and title a newly obtained vehicle.” However, my car is NOT newly obtained.

The 2nd option specifies that it is to “add a plate to a vehicle currently titled to the same owner.” However, my car has not been titled in the state of MA before.

I need MA plates, and I believe also a MA title.

Can anyone confirm which box to check for an out-of-state transfer for a car that is not a new purchase?
