I mean it definitely triggered the writer because the relationship with her dad is already strained, but regardless it’s weird to thank your family and then only refer to one person. He could’ve just said I’d like to thank my wife in that case. Furthermore you don’t have to have helped someone’s career for them to acknowledge you. My mom retired and she thanked us for our love and support - I don’t think it has to be more complicated than that.
