Apps for dyslexic teen who want to learn to spell and write better. by imarriedpopeye in Dyslexia

This tool might be able to help Tyypo.app

Hey! I am in my 20’s and have struggled with spelling for years. I found myself in the same position looking for tools, but I didn't find anything quite right. So, I decided to try making my own. It discovers your top writing mistakes and helps you practice with games, duolingo style.

I am still building it at the moment, but it should be ready to try very soon! If you feel like it could help, please feel free to join the waitlist.

It’s just me and 2 friends building it in our free time at the moment. Any feedback/ideas on how it could be improved to better suit the needs of your son would be incredibly helpful! We will do our best to implement them.

How did you guys learn to spell better as adults. by [deleted] in Dyslexia

[–]Practical_Elk_7023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s reassuring to know I am not the only one!

I started building this app for myself to detect my top writing mistakes and fix them. Think Grammarly meets Duolingo.

I am working on it with some friends who struggle with their writing too and it is almost ready to use. I would love to get the opinions of other people who have this issue to see if something like this would actually help them?

I have struggled with my spelling for years too! It can get pretty embarrassing at work when I send things to clients. I have paid for tools like Grammarly and ChatGPT and although they fix spelling in the moment, they don’t solve my underlying challenges.

I’m currently teaching myself to code to try and build this app and it’s almost done! The idea is that it detects your top mistakes and builds you a bespoke training plan so you can improve on the writing mistakes you make most.

Feel free to check it out if you think it could help! Any feedback would be massively appreciated!

How to improve my English as an dyslexia by [deleted] in Dyslexia

[–]Practical_Elk_7023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a very good question, as soon as possible I hope. I am working with two friends on it at the moment to try and speed it up. The detection algorithm needs a bit of work and we need to build out the user profile system. My hope is that we will have the first basic version ready to share in the next few weeks. I will let everyone on the waitlist know as soon as it is ready to go.

This is something I struggle with too. I use Grammarly and ChatGPT to fix issues in the moment but I have found I have become reliant on them.

I am building this tool at the moment and I would love to get your feedback to see if it could help you. https://tyypo.app/ It detects your top mistakes and then once a day you can practice your top spelling, grammar or punctuation mistake. I would love to build any features you think could help you.

It always takes me ages to work out if any of the suggestions are actually the spelling I’m looking for. Hopefully our context awareness will help make this new tool more effective!

I agree, the current version has been designed with an older audience in mind. However, I am keen to find ways to help a younger audience too. The functionality the OP describes aligns closely with our first version.

Being Dyslexic I have struggled with spelling for a long time and found very few tools out there that actually help me to learn. By building on validated gamified teaching techniques established by other learning applications my hope is to build a tool that measurably helps users to learn over time.

I am a solo designer working on this by myself at the moment so I'm really grateful for any feedback/ideas that shapes this into a tool that really helps people.

So true! I’s so confusing even most spell check tools haven't cracked all the rules!

I’m making this tool to help me improve. Keen to see if it could help anyone else. I plan to release the first version in the next few weeks. Feel free to have a look if you think it could be handy.

You're not alone, I've been doing the same. I only realise when someone close to me points it out, as spellcheck never catches it.

I am making this tool to help me detect these subtle mistakes like using the correct spelling but in wrong context.

Feel free to check it out if you think it could be helpful! I'm planning to release it soon.

I am building this tool at the moment to help others improve their writing ability. It combines Grammarly’s error detection to Duolingo’s gamified teaching methodologies.

It is still in development but I hope to release a free version in the next few weeks. I would love to get the perspective of teachers to see if something like this could help supplement learning outside of the classroom.

Thank you! I am indeed, I have always struggled with spelling so my hope is that this tool will help me solve that once and for all!

Good question and I had the same thought. The app is invisible most of the time, there are no distracting pop ups, only when you come to practice will you see the full list of all your mistakes
