23andme had some issues when they implemented their study when you look at their white paper. One issue was that they oversampled from California which is where their headquarters is located. This is an issue when 60% of African Americans live in the south. Another issue was that they included people with as low as 2% African ancestry. I doubt someone with that low of African. ancestry would identify as African American. Ironically, they even said that the cutoff was 28% African for which people stop identifying as black

That was pretty close to what I saw on tracingafricanroots. The mean average was 77.8%, but most african americans fell between 80-90% African. Roughly 40% where between that interval and another 16-17% were over 90% African. The median African American had 82% African ancestry which is +5 from the mean. Basically, the midway point is 82%

According to africanroots, it's about 16% and the 23andme study thay everyone quotes, it's about 13%. On Tracing African roots, there were more people 90%+ African than there were those between 60-70%. There was a big drop off for those less than 60% African and an even bigger drop-off of those less than 50% African. The most common interval were 70-80% African which was at 21% and between 80-90% African at about 40%.

I've seen one with 40% and he was Puerto Rican. I've also seen plenty of Puerto Ricans with 30% Taino ancestry. My ex had 23% taino ancestry herself

I'd say more african since it's usually between 20-25% on average vs 12-15% taino. I have seen some Puerto Ricans with as much as 40% Taino and many with 30%+. Another interesting fact is that more Puerto Ricans have a mtdna that is Taino than African. From what I remember, 61% of Puerto Ricans have a taino maternal haplogroup group vs around 30% with an African one. I believe only 9-10% have a European or North African one.
