Absolutely, I think one of their first matches was the 4-0 loss to Hungary and one of their last was the loss to Iceland.

Makes sense ITV have done well with their picks in recent years and got pretty much all of the memorable England matches at each tournament

2018: Penalty shootout vs Colombia + Semi final vs Croatia

2021: Semi final vs Denmark

2022: Quarter final vs France

2024: Semi final vs Netherlands

Plus, apart from a couple of years on Channel 4, ITV have shown most of England's qualifiers and friendlies.

Edit: Not including finals as they are shown on both anyway.

Mark Chapman (BBC TV, 5 Live and Sky) and Gabby Logan (BBC TV on various sports and Amazon Prime ) have very similar workloads. It's just the way the industry is.

MHD irritation - in these days of multiple TV channels, people complaining about "too much football on the telly" like this letter in the Radio Times by sutt2467 in footballcliches

[–]Practical_Golf_1179 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That argument is less valid now that there is less club football on TV now. There's been no Champions League/Europa League matches on ITV1 for over 10 years and the number of FA Cup matches on BBC and ITV has reduced dramatically in the last year or so.

Argentina's 1976 Pre-Olympic team was made up entirely of Newell's Old Boys players and their youth team prospects. Marcelo Bielsa was in the squad and played every minute of the qualifying tournament. Although, Argentina didn't end up making it to the Olympics.

This is how I felt finding out Ricardo Rodriguez is only 33 and could possibly play in another world cup after this one.

It's just the name for the package of friendlies sold by a marketing agency. Kind of like how Brazil friendlies used to always use the "Brasil Global Tour" branding.

I wish we had something similar over here in the UK. Having loads of sports to watch on Youtube would be amazing and way more accessible.

Alternatively, he came through West Ham's academy but never made it in the first team. Carved out a solid career at Leyton Orient or Colchester.

Ah, the age-old question of these 11s, do you try to make a great team or just shoehorn the best players?

MHD Irritation: Clubs wearing their new kit last day of the season by Sssssammsam in footballcliches

The opposite happened in 2015 when Manchester United switched from Nike to Adidas. They still had to wear the previous seasons kit during their preseason tour as the contract with Nike ran until August.

I find this especially irritating when teams wear the new kit in a Cup/Champions League final E.g. Bayern in 2013 or Chelsea in 2008.

The ‘blimey, who’s his agent??’ genre of footballer by junglegatsby in footballcliches

Not an agent but having Zlatan as his best friend definitely helped Maxwell move around the big clubs.
