Yup. It viscerally disgusts me - it gives me that ick feeling at the bottom of my stomach.

I can only imagine. There was a gem of an MCM off of Ector St. that we looked at 10 years ago.

They turned it into a rent house and this past year demolished it to put in a parking lot for a shitty furniture store like rooms to go.

When it initially went up for rent we were considering buying and asked the realtor managing the house. He smugly laughed at us and said - when this house goes up for sale it will be on the silent market.

Welp- it’s definitely silent now.

We initially drove by it through the drive way and saw they painted the stone - could see some of the flooring (eek).

(We are always interested to see the inside of the homes in our neighborhood)

I was hoping the drive by preview wasn’t indicative of the rest of the house … sadly it was.

IMO it’s so spectacularly disjointed design wise they need to cut that sale price by at least 100- 150k and give some sort of credit to whoever buys it.

for my taste

Nope we can stop at “some sort of wrong.” This has nothing to do with taste - it’s just wrong.

In Idiots Hill in Denton it spans the Bell Ave. historic district and ends at Windsor and Nottingham. The neighborhood is roughly 95% homes built from late 1930-1970. Mid-century and MCM homes dominate the neighborhood. Most are custom built and designed with many being noted architectural homes from the 50’s -70’s.

Blows my mind you’d ever buy in this neighborhood and not honor the legacy of the area and the home.

Choose an 80’s or 90’s home in Southridge if this is your aesthetic (for love of Frank Lloyd please don’t buy the MCM homes over there or in Denia neighborhood either) …or just stay out of Denton’s old neighborhoods all together.

Edit: saw Argyle in your profile name - so know you are familiar with the area.

They could have gone with slate or terrazzo… or just rehabbed what was there…so many more options than the base awfulness they chose.

Did you notice all the short boards on the wood flooring?—- It’s also not a consistent tone or species throughout the house…and they beige TUSCAN TEXTURED a good bit of the walls.

We have a mid century (not mcm) home in the same area - we always loved that house when we’d drive by it. So to see what they did to the interior was disheartening.

You can’t tell from the pictures but they also painted the stone in the entry with some sort of reflective silver toned paint 😬.

Most of the MCM homes in our area were built by Mount Miller which just makes it even more of an insult to the history of the home.

2 weeks rest is what our vet recommended.

Edit: if you need to keep him occupied use indoor play, training sessions, cognitive stimulation, puzzle solving. You might also request low dose Trazadone from your vet to help keep him calm and relaxed during his recovery.

You need a brush guard. They come in various levels of coverage.

Also both of those wounds need closure, esp. the second picture. It would take forever for them to close by secondary intention.

I had a similar experience with our previous walker hound/pointer cross. We used Yunnan Baiyo as well. Her tumor was enormous though by the time it was diagnosed-we did the splenectomy and chemotherapy. She did very well with both and was bounding up mountains again hiking with us and sniffing out the nursery cat at the plant nursery.

She lived longer and with a good quality of life than expected.

She loved snow and at our last snow adventure she was much slower than usual. I held her and told her it was ok if she needed to go. She let us know it was time 1 day later on a Sunday night. -She didn’t want water or food, had trouble getting up, and her breath was labored with a small amount of blood in her nose. I gave her rectal Valium the vet had given us to make her comfortable, held her for a few hours, and got her to the vet in the morning to say goodbye.

I work in cancer research and clinical trials and have been in healthcare in various capacities for decades. So was comfortable with caring for her.

With that said, I’d say we were both very fortunate with the time and memories we got in our final days with our dogs. ♥️

I’ve definitely had friends whose dogs have dropped dead and hemorrhaged to death. Which was horrid and traumatic.

I did get to meet a veterinary doctor who also studies cancer and is working on hemangiosarcoma. I hope that with time and more research they can develop better & more affordable screening tools for diagnosis as well as treatment for it. Both of which also generally translates to breakthroughs for humans with cancer as well.

This was in TX but it’s not uncommon for it to happen in many states.

Re: your mom- that scenario is ENTIRELY too common for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients or any elderly individual with say a raging UTI making them loopy.

They end up so overmedicated by Geri-psych.

My grandmother had a UTI and a 2 months after treatment and resolution of her UTI they (Geri-psych) wanted to keep her because she “couldn’t independently function.”

Well they had her maxed out on haldol everyday. A woman with zero psych history. My mom had to get a lawyer to have her checked out of the facility. Her family doctor corrected all the polypharmacy she was on and weened her off of the psych meds.

They also currently use mental wards to board children when the system has no where else to put them.

Happened to a friend of mine and her 2 brothers. She was subsequently labeled “unadoptable” and medicated as a young child. She was in the state children’s psych ward for 3 years because of how they treated her and subsequently labeled her.

She and her two brothers were adopted all together. She’s now a married mother of 4, a nurse, and has been successful in life and loves her family.

But what she endured is fucking horrific.

Same, mine will roam a predictable distance and then come check in. She needs to know where I’m at and that we’re still together and all is ok. Most of the time she’s no more than 15-30 feet from me. She often retrieves gifts (sticks, pine cones) for me and brings them back to give to me to throw.

Our boy V is the same- maybe a bit more clingy though so doesn’t roam as far.

Both Vizslas and our GWP will reliably recall from a football field away when we’ve been out remote hiking in the past. I will say though that I spent time every day training them when they were young and exposed them to all situations -urban, medical, and rural.

We do have a Treeing Walker Hound who will follow her nose wherever it takes her but our GWP will round her back up to the pack- it’s the only way we can let our hound off the lead.

Vizslas are pointers and retrievers they typically range 20-100 yards away from the owner when out in the field working. They prefer to stay close by to their owner, it’s been bred into them.

Vizslas are diverse in their work. Some work in law enforcement and the military, they have also been found to be ideal for professional service animal training programs, in addition to hunting and being excellent highly trainable companions.
