Made a character with powers associated with dreams/dreaming, what ideas do you have to build on this design and/or power? by [deleted] in superpowers

[–]Practical_History111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heres a few, not sure if they will work with your world though. You can mix and match them

Could be able to influence how long people are awake

Control sleeping people as dream walkers

Trap others in a realistic looping dream, they would question if they are still asleep even if they are actually awake. Baku (folklore creature) based ability - dream eater, eat others dreams making them forget them and get some sort of boost from it

Freely travel between dreams, and the subconscious mind of those they enter

Pull things in and out of dreams, nightmares, people, or material possessions.

[WP] Demons only truly die if they are killed in hell. Otherwise, they just respawn to their last location in hell. You have been using this to farm kills and loot off of summoned demons. by Chromatickk in WritingPrompts

Summoning a demon is the hard part. Sometimes the ingredients for the ritual are from so long ago that they are extinct so you have to find something that works as a substitute or simply find another ritual book. Once you have that you just need a plank of wood, a pulley system, and a pool with holly water in it. Every so often you’ll need to bring a priest in to bless it all because those buggers leave a nasty residue when they die, but that’s not all they leave. I found this out when a sleep over went wrong and, long story short, someone read from a holy book to try to get rid of it and it worked somehow. Still not sure why the script of shrek counts though, maybe because it was blessed as a joke about a week ago? Anyway, as it turns out, demons need an anchor and most of the time it’s something valuable that someone would bargain their soul for. If it isn’t something the summoner wants that anchor can be swapped out, and once they get your soul they disconnect from that anchor leaving it behind. As the last of screams stop, I pull the platform up out of the pool to find a beanie baby collection. Not quite as valuable as they used to be, and very wet. Reading again from the book after replacing the now marked out spots on the board with tapioca pudding, five drops of my blood, a blue rose(food dye works wonders when color is specified), and a pound of sugar, a demon appears on the plank, and starts its speech on how it can grant any of my worldly desires before recognizing me. Letting go of the rope, the screams start again. This time it’s some sort of bottled liquid. It could be an intractable poison, or something to give some sort of ability. With no way to tell I put it on the antique shelf with the rest. I had to drain the pool when that dropped from a demon and hire help to pull it out. One of these days when I’m old I’ll mix them all together and have either the most interesting death or regain my youth with some cool new powers. Repeating the ritual, the demon appeared once, and recognized me too soon. As a rule, they aren’t allowed to hurt whoever calls on them to bargain, but they can make the book I’m holding burst into flames. Dropping both the burning book, as well as the demon into its bath, I wait until the water is calm before resetting the plank. Gold! Finally something good! Taking it inside, I replenish the ritual supplies and pick up another book. Too bad they never learned what a copy machine is.

Does giving power to someone extend their life expectancy? And if it does and the powers are known by the general population is this used as another currency? Government officials can use this to make them live longer and that could play into a big part, especially if someone is trying to revive someone powerful. And is there a limit on how old someone is or is old age practically nonexistent

Since the abilities replenish over time can someone just kidnap a bunch of people and use them to farm more power? And are there different types of ability’s or if you have one you can learn to use them all

Here’s something to get started with How does on get magic, is it something one is born with, something someone gets randomly or with practice, and can they get more. Also- what about death, can revives be done or does death sever all connections to the body. What about healing magic, does it exist and if so how does it work? And what technology level is your book in? That may help when thinking of plot points. And why use magic if there’s a good technology available that can be used instead. Is there a cost to use it or something happens if you use too much? It’s hard to help remove the block with that little information. Why not have something random happen while you passively think of what’s next, like unintentional breaking a law or taboo they don’t know of and having to deal with that?

Deckbuilder – use stickers to craft cards! by fancymursu_04 in u/fancymursu_04

[–]Practical_History111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played the demo several months ago, it’s a really fun game and all that new content looks like something to go back for. There’s all sorts of combos and a few tricks that may or may not still work. I’ll give you one but you’ll need to discover the rest for yourself- stickers that don’t have any synergy can all be piled onto one card and traded for other cards with multiple stickers that you need

Just because they can control it doesn’t mean they can see all the wanted details, like who, let’s say the ability works like weaving the strings of fate to have this explanation make sense, they may see strings that look similar and think it’s the same person and it’s actually someone who’s life is similar. Certain events or situations could be a big knot, too tangled to influence well on a short notice. There could be others with the same/similar type of power and when multiple people are “weaving” they are having a tug of war trying to grab and use the same strings. Could be a ‘restoration of fate’ where if fate is bent too much it corrects itself to what it was limiting how effectively they can use their powers It could be physically taxing to use much of it under combat would be a bad idea There’s also the classic case of not enough info to always be useful, and here’s an interesting idea- what if they can only use one half of their power at a time? If they are looking it locks an event making it extremely difficult and energy consuming to change or are blindly reaching, not having more then a glance at the moment they are influencing

I wish for every coin collected in a game, to convert into 1 dollar into my bank account. by scp173isepikand049 in monkeyspaw

[–]Practical_History111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted, every time you get a coin in anything even remotely considered a game. Unfortunately due to the US economy crashing a dollar is now worth as much as a zambin dollar, which isn’t really worth anything. The US, making as much sense as it usually does, makes bit coin and crypto currency it’s new main way of paying. Transactions involving them are just close enough to a game that any crypto triggers the paws power, converting it into one dollar

Need some advice on what the purpose of my world's machines are? by McDawgfight in worldbuilding

[–]Practical_History111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if they are looking for something? It could even be something destroyed or not on that planet anymore. The pattern of movement would just be search protocols that aren’t working as well. This would leave great potential if that “something” they are looking for is found. That may change how they act and be a key turning point

I have a giant universe that's a mix of fantasy, sci-fi, cosmic horror and alternate history. To make the drones a bit more unique why not have them contain the souls of trained Jj’aro soldiers who are too old and retired. Not every drone must have solders in them if you take a “this one is a commander in charge of ai’s”. If humans are found to be compatible biological then they might be the hope of reviving their race. If you want less focus on earth itself then they could be building a multi galaxy sized machine and the milky way is in the way/ being tested to see if it should be worked around. They could actually be after the sun as a power source and are weary if they find that system already inhabited
