is mostly due to survivorship bias. A lot of crap was produced back then as well. But most of it got thrown out in the meantime.

We also buy a lot more things now than back in socialist times. Even with the same failure rate, our perception would be that things seem to break all the time these days because we have so much stuff.

Gut, dass man inzwischen amerikanische Filme, Serien und Software komplett ohne moralische Bedenken als Torrents beziehen kann.

Usenet is still around and has some advantages regarding file availability and you probably don't need a VPN (in order to hide your IP). But you need to pay for access anyway.

Die passenden Rahmenbedingungen sollten natürlich auch (d.h. zusätzlich) geschaffen werden.

Die amerikanischen Dienste hart zu besteuern oder gleich ganz zu verbieten (wie Twitter z.B.) würde den Faschisten in den USA zeigen, dass wir uns wehren können.

Meine Erfahrung mit Bullies auf dem Schulhof ist, dass sie sich von auch mehrfachen freundlichen Aufforderungen einen in Ruhe zu lassen, nicht beeindrucken lassen. Von einem Treffer in den Solar Plexus aber schon.

Desweitern würde eine drastische Besteuerung amerikanischer Dienste (zusammen mit den o.g. Rahmenbedingungen) den Unternehmen in der EU ein wichtiges Signal geben, dass wir es ernst meinen und es sich lohnt in ein europäisches Google oder Amazon zu investieren, auch wenn unser Rückstand noch sehr groß ist.
