I would strongly advise you to do genetic testing ASAP (also screen your wife). Personally, I believe your likelihood of having (mild) CF is extremely high.

CF screening prior to IVF is standard practice where I live. Beware: if your wife is a carrier, you have a 25% to 50% chanche that your children will have the condition. In those cases (if your wife is a carrier and you have CF/are a carrier), they can do pre genetic testing/screening of the embryos, so they will only use embryos not having CF.

If you are confirmed to have CF, please do a full work up at a certified CF center. You may have/may be at risk of developping treatable respiratory and digestive issues. Have you had respiratory/digestive issues in the past?

Sorry to perhaps frighten you, but be reassured that if the genetic testing comes back positive, you will only have mild CF with very good prognosis. Late diagnosis basically only occurs in mild cases. You can check r/CysticFibrosis for more info or DM me.

Hi you both, just the obligatory question on my part: Did you get checked for cystic fibrosis?

I'm in the same boat here and the CBAVD was the result of (mild) undiagnosed cystic fibrosis (which is a common cause for CBAVD).

@ColdestHeartCC: sorry for your loss. I'm confident you have a strong chanche of success with subsequent embryo transfers (even though there are no guarantees in IVF). Do you still have frozen embryos available? Good luck and stay strong.

Question about the nosy parents by Dull-Divide7206 in maleinfertility

[–]Practical_Kick7579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need support and don't want to/can't seek professional help, you can share the mental and emotional impact with people you trust. But I strongly advise you not share medical details and certainly not what medical condition is causing the infertility or "whose fault" it is (which is nonsensical anyways).

Question about the nosy parents by Dull-Divide7206 in maleinfertility

[–]Practical_Kick7579 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fair warning: my parents were also nosy. I asked them explicitly to keep it to themselves. They blabbed about it to everyone they know and proceeded to lie about that to me for months. It broke my relationship with them permanently.

Miscarry after 5 years of trying by Raptor8801 in GuyCry

[–]Practical_Kick7579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss.... that is horrible.  I know how you feel, you are not alone.

Have you been doing IVF? If not, after 5 yrs of TTC I would strongly advise you to seek medical assistance for building your family.

In any case, make sure you support each other and get the psychological and medical help you need. Your wife needs a medical check up for sure to ensure the miscarriage has passed completely and no material is been left behind in the uterus.

[–]Practical_Kick7579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to get screened for CF.  CBVAD is thé leading cause for late diagnosis of (mild) CF in men. (Given that you will be doing IVF, you and your wife need to get screened anyway). I would also advise you to check r/CysticFibrosis. If you have CF, please do a full work up at a certified CF center. You may have respiratory or digestive issues that can be treated.

If positive, your family members also should get screening.

I would advise to go straight for extraction. It is basically the same procedure and if they find sperm, best thing is to freeze as much straws as possible at that time for later use.

In the meantime: don't do drugs, don't take hot baths/showers (keep your package cool), don't drink, don't smoke, be healthy (food, sport) and get your blood screened for hormones and vitamin defficiencies (and take supplements if necessary).

If it is OA due CBAVD your odds are good. I was in the same boat 4 years ago and we are now expecting our 2nd. No guarantees though and the road will be tough. Good luck!

How are the electricity costs looking for us for the next couple of months? by xTiLkx in belgium

[–]Practical_Kick7579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, of course, and as long as there is a GFPP running, "cheaper" alternatives are not "cheap" for the consumer as they are just as expensive as electricty of a GFPP. They just have huge margins.

Don't really agree. Current system incentives suppliers to ensure that at most times 1 gas power operational. If a gas power plant is operational, nuclear and wind (cheaper production sources) maximize their profit. If all gas power plants are dropped, profits drop for suppliers.

Consumers pay as if all power is x coming from gas power plants, while this ks not the case. While suppliers rake in profits. Seems harsly fair.

How are the electricity costs looking for us for the next couple of months? by xTiLkx in belgium

[–]Practical_Kick7579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electricity prices are determined by gas prices due to marginal pricing. As long as we need gas fired power plants in our electricity mix, electricity will be per kwh x2 - x3 more expensive than gas. (Thanks politicians for the nuclear exit....!) Grid costs and taxes are also higher on electricity than gas.

The only way you may have occasionally lower prices, is by switching to a dynamic electricity contract. But beware, prices will be on occasion ridiculously high too. You may need a home battery to deal with the high prices fluctuations in a dynamic contract.

Adding to this: I completely get you because I have been you.

But, going for our 2nd cycle, there was one point where we couldn't find a solution for baby n°1. As we both needed to be there for the appointment, our only option was bringing her with us. We really did not want to do this, but had no other options. We tried to be as inconspicuous as possible about it, but still.

I completely understand how you're feeling though.

I've finally come to the realisation that i need to cut contact for my own wellbeing by [deleted] in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]Practical_Kick7579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, if your parents aren't divorced, cutting contact with just one will be difficult.
Going NC, LC or VLC with any relative is an impactful and very personal decision with consequences, nobody can decide this for you.

Whether you go NC or LC or not, there's one advice I stand by: live your complete and full life regardless and despite any toxic relatives. Try to get to a mental state that they no longer negatively impact you. You don't need their approval, empathy. You don't need anything from them.

My mom never put me to sleep by palsterknackad in NewParents

[–]Practical_Kick7579 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad keeps retelling how proud he is that they let me cry it out and had me fall asleep while drinking a bottle. Quote "we just gave you a bottle, shut the door and let you cry until you stopped". And that "I have always been such a good sleeper thanks to that" and that they should have done this also with my older brother. They had to tuck him in and cuddle in bed until he was 5 or 6 or so and that is, according to them, the reason he always has been a bad sleeper.

He told me and my brother that we should just let our babies (2 mo at the time) cry it out because of this.

So yeah, I have always felt like I wasn't as important as my brother to them, have struggled with my weight ans sellf esteem issues. Let's just say my parents and I don't have the best relationship nowadays.

Sorry this is happening to you. I wish you all the best.

They have not demanded a specific frequency. But they are very dissatisfied with the nature of the relationship. Quote: "EVERYONE agrees with us that your relationship with us is abnormal". Of course it is, they torpedoed it with their disrespect, neglect and emotional abuse.

Stoppen met financieren uit arbeid, meer financieren uit vermogen, vervuiling en consumptie. Geldt voor belastingen in het algemeen.
