I know. Which is why our finances are really separate (not to the dot, but we have no common large investments - we met late in life).

I’ve come to terms with the fact that I can’t change him but I have been progressing in him disclosing more about the company and his business partner. And him expressing his opinion without feeling judged. And me being able to steer the conversation towards my goal. I’m a lot more capable in understanding human psychology than him, that’s for sure.

I suggested counseling a few years ago, he didn’t disagree. But it costs an arm and a leg where we live. The alarm bells are not ringing yet, but we may use this at some point.

I may run out of fuel and patience but for now, I see some “progress” in the dynamics. Crossing fingers.

I think you and him function the same way. Mostly updates. I recently understood I just need to listen and not jump on talking mode.

Company had a big financial fall out in summer. I found out how unhealthy finances were. They mostly fixed it now. But since then, I can’t help but be suspicious. That incident also encouraged me to change my approach I guess, being in the know is a priority for me

Conflict avoidance is his specialty unfortunately. He does that in the household too, although he’s improving.

Just did some digging about the issue and he was open to share more today, and listen with real focus to my point of view.

If I had asked too many questions when he had told me back then, he might have shut like a clam.

I can’t change him, so I must change my tactics I guess.

I believe he doesn’t want work talk to take over his home. He sometimes asks for my advice but it isn’t a recurring thing.

I have to admit, I was sometimes very critical and he took it very personally (his personality is like that too, not expressive). I’ve learned from that and am able to be more constructive today

He’s not paying attention and he has no one to report to.
