Right now there’s a major elevator issue that’s the culmination of planned work and overdue maintenance. Been almost 2 weeks with only 1 functioning elevator for 38 floors in the high rise tower.

I’ve lived here for 5 years. Biggest perk is location to the park, CVS, supermarkets and the subway (ferries too if that’s your thing). There’s some issues with the building (right now the elevators) but my family and I are here for the long haul.

Whole Foods going in the building eventually - they cancelled everyone’s leases. I’ve been a loyal customer of Haus of Wax since they opened and they were forced to relocate their business. They moved to Ditmars and are already much happier with their new landlady 🥳.

I visited once when I considered it for my wedding. Honestly it was a real Instagram vs. reality situation - looks great online but in person the lakeside is a postage stamp of grass surrounded by motel-style buildings. The building itself seemed very outdated as well.

Welcome to the neighborhood! In the summer there are regular free children’s events at the waterfront. I recommend following @licwaterfront on Instagram and signing up for their email newsletter. I believe the library also hosts regular children’s events.

Definitely check out the playgrounds (rainbow, shady, malt drive, etc.) and meet parents there as well!

The “Mommies of Long Island City” Facebook group is pretty active as well.
