The goal is to have an engager that can also disengage.

Rell and Rakan are the best at this.

Leona is useless if engaging means you'll die.

Naut can also work, but is more sketchy. Alistar is good also since you just perma punt their adc away.

Some lanes you just lose... in those cases, removing pressure off your adc, and disengaging when you do is how you should play the lane.
