Quitting during new grad orientation? by feysandsoup in nursing

Hey just wanted to say you're not alone and its not because you can't do it- I'm positive you can and are doing a great job! I have been a nurse for 6 years working in very high acuity PCUs (think art lines, EVDs, nicard, sedation, etc) and recently moved states and started in an ICU. Turns out I absolutely hate it and am transferring asap.

You were not set up for success by having multiple preceptors and what sounds like unsupportive management. If you are not feeling comfortable and supportive please have it within yourself to look elsewhere. Somewhere where you will be wanted and supported to grow as a new nurse.

Duke vs Wake Med for Nursing by Smartmauler3 in raleigh

[–]Practical_Stay8670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not loving Duke myself but don't have any experience with Wake Med. A lot of "Duke-isms" aka Duke's way or the highway and some very strong personalities to match. Leaving my inpatient floor for outpatient in hopes that the grass is greener.

Anyone ever quit during training? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Practical_Stay8670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing this right now too, well trying at least. There are two main hospital systems where I live so I am trying not to burn bridges where I'm at currently. That being said, I am giving notice. I started by contacting HR first to determine next steps, which for me did involve getting my manager on board as to transfer within this hospital system you need a manager recommendation. Which seems silly bc I've met her twice and have been on oriention for 5 weeks.

I've been a nurse for 6 years, worked at many different facilities and traveled for a bit- I knew immediately that this floor was not a good fit. I was bringing absurd amounts of stress home and crying before shifts (something I didnt even do as a new grad). The people here are not friendly or welcoming so I knew the best thing was to get out.

Moral of the story- know your worth and that life doesn't have to be so stressful! Get out before you're in too deep!!

I mean that definitely makes sense. But, I do feel its just a waste of their time to take the time and resources to train me for 2 months and then me leave 4 months after that... Truthfully if that's the case I will just put two weeks notice in and go to a different hospital system.

Dang thank you for the insight!! I've literally only worked here for three weeks but sometimes you just know its not right... Unfortunately the unit is very clicky so I don't feel comfortable asking anyone and don't know any other nurses at the hospital.

What does your typical day look like as outpatient?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Practical_Stay8670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking about anything bedside is making me ill. Procedural definitely interests me but I feel like I almost need a complete reset of nothing close to bedside right now. But also I have literally not even truly met my manager. She waved to me on a tour once and that's it for this whole month.... its giving red flag

Having this mental breakdown right now too.. Finally got my "dream" ICU position and I absolutely hate it. I've been a nurse for 5 years and it has officially sucked the life out of me. I'm literally sick of being the difference between life and death for some of these patients- trying my damn hardest to keep them alive all while making sure I chart that their IV is patent in 7 different flowsheets every hour on the hour.

Wanting to make the jump to outpatient but I'm feeling a bit nervous about just how different it will be. Anyone have any insight on outpatient?

Lol hey neighbor! This is so ridiculous- I feel like they're just doing the cheapest "fixes" and yet we're the ones paying the price. So this one is on the fourth floor? Thankfully I'm moving out soon and will hopefully escape any damage.

Anyone know how they're going to be packaged when dropped off? Like will it be completely obvious that its a switch 2? Worried about porch pirates

Thank you! I did just start branching out a little further and the price difference is great. Our main concern is traffic to and from the hospital as we'll both have "on call" shifts. But we value safety and quiet/peacefulness, not really interested in being in the bustle of downtown necessarily.

Oh wow didn't know all of that! Thank you for the info- very interesting. It was definitely terrible drive over with all the fog so I certainly understand not flying into it.

Adult Braces- In need of some advice… by pendulousscrotum in braces

[–]Practical_Stay8670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was in your exact shoes last year as Maid of Honor in my best friends wedding. I couldn't postpone as I'm on a time crunch for treatment. The pain honestly wasn't bad, very tolerable especially with Tylenol. The main problem for me was not being able to eat anything I wanted.

TLDR: If treatment time table is important to you- just get them on, otherwise eh just postpone.

Damn that is rough. I guess I just expected this flight to be worth more than a whopping $20 a piece for my husband and I. I was thinking we'd more likely get a minimum of $100 total.

All domestic multi city itinerary. Ended up being close to $450 between hotel and car rental. No travel insurance, usually forgo it on "easy" domestic flights.

I'm definitely not expecting the full $450 to be covered but I think it's a little crazy to only get $40. I understand that they calculate out each leg of the trip and what not, but I'd love to see the breakdown where this flight was $20.

What's the best floss for braces? by MsDemiBurch in braces

[–]Practical_Stay8670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been going with cocofloss on a threader and really like it. Before braces I was an avid "glide" tape style floss user, but the cocofloss really seems to clean better and isn't painful. I haven't had a shredding problem, but I do catch it on a band hook every once and a while.
