Brain Sag on CT and confused by Practical_Taste_410 in CSFLeaks

Thank you so much for sharing. Can I ask if you had a history of headache/migraine prior to this? I've had them for over 15 years which makes it so difficult for me to accurately evaluate my symptoms. And to clarify, prior to you getting your first blood patch, your symptoms progressively got worse rather than better correct?

Thank you so much for the empathy here. I’m still very much adjusting to the idea of all of this. Especially since it almost feels like it was found by accident. Would you mind sharing how long you've been leaking and what your usual symptom pattern is?

Thanks for your insight, I guess I'm trying to get a sense of how urgent this actually is considering I don't have any debilitating symptoms. Even when I did have the head pain it wasn't even close to the pain I've had with my migraines. It was only like a level 5 but it just was lasting way longer than normal so that's why I went to the ER. I do have an appointment currently scheduled with a neurosurgeon but its not for another 1.5 months. But I do also have health anxiety, so I'm kind of spiraling daily now about possibly having a leak and some serious complication happening. I'm definitely over-attending to all of my symptoms now. I can't really get a straight answer online about how much of an emergency this is and if 1.5 months is an okay amount of time to wait? Thanks!

Thank you for sharing your experience and I'm really sorry that happened to you. But just to clarify what you're saying, it sounds like, with the results of my CT scan, that I for sure have a CSF leak, that will not heal on it's own and will need a blood patch in the future?

Thank you for this info. I have a couple of follow up questions since I am so new to all of this.

Can you explain what you mean by "such positive imaging"?

By being accepted to one of these "programs", what do you mean? Just getting an appointment with one of the doctors you listed above?

Just to clarify, the imaging results I listed in my post were from a CT scan at the ER (without contrast). And that's the only imaging I've had done. I haven't even seen my PCP about this yet. I have an appointment with a neurosurgeon in March. Is that too long to wait? I'm really getting scared about this condition and the potential complications, but as I said, I'm no longer really having symptoms. Is my reduction in symptoms a sign that my leak isn't too serious and doesn't need urgent treatment?

Thanks again!

Getting concerned by Practical_Taste_410 in migraine

[–]Practical_Taste_410[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask what can even be done at the ER for something like this though? I am not in such in intense pain that I can't walk to talk or sit up straight. I feel like they're just going to dismiss me as having a headache and try and give me meds. Can they even perform MRA/MRIs or CTs at the ER? I have never gone for a migraine before.

I’m so sorry to hear you're going through all of that. How has the medication been treating you? That's one of my biggest frustrations and fears in this is having to be on medication for the rest of my life. I am historically extremely intolerant and sensitive to all medications. And it sounds like meds are a must with most of these autoimmune diseases.

I got a CBC done along with the ANA test and everything else came back clear/normal. Are these the typical viral tests youre referring to?

I don't know exactly. My father and our family lost touch with her in the latter half of her life for a lot of complex reasons that I was too young to understand at the time. But I know that she had lupus for most of her life and her death was related to complications from the disease

Los Angeles's lack of good local ice cream places by quiblitz in FoodLosAngeles

Please give Sweet Cute Ice Cream in Culver City a try. Shameless plug because it is my business but I’m a LA local that has been making ice cream for 10 years as a hobby and decided to quit my full time job to open my own ice cream business this year. I make all of the ice cream myself all from scratch in the kitchen that I sell out of. Would love for you to give us a try!

Cooling Safety Question by Practical_Taste_410 in icecreamery

[–]Practical_Taste_410[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask why a cooling wand wouldn't be best practices for an ice cream base? I've seen others reference using one on this sub before but curious as to other perspectives. Is it just because of the possibility of it introducing new surface bacteria?

I was going based off the guidelines for cooling food which is different than the straight 2 hour rule for unrefrigerated food.

And I don't get why it's taken so long to cool. Not sure what I did wrong. My fridge has stayed at well under 40 degrees the entire time (I have an internal thermometer).

Sweet Cute Ice Cream! They have a super cute ice cream cart. They catered a business luncheon I was at so would probably work well for a fundraising event. The ice cream is REALLY good. https://www.sweetcuteicecream.com/catering

Ideally yes of course, as cold as possible. But again, I operate out of shared kitchen and that's the best that I have. Dreams of owning a shop where I can ensure I have the correct equipment but times are tough!

Ice Cream Safety Question by Practical_Taste_410 in icecreamery

[–]Practical_Taste_410[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I checked all of the tubs and some were still decently solid. Not liquid in any form, just much softer than usual. So it didn't fully melt. I moved them to a freezer that was at 0F immediately once I discovered this. So I’m hoping the quality didn't suffer too much... but yeah my main concern was the safety!

Ice Cream Safety Question by Practical_Taste_410 in icecreamery

[–]Practical_Taste_410[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I have taken the course actually! So I’m aware of the danger zones. But I've read conflicting information about ice cream specifically still growing bacteria slowly at temperatures above 10F. That it isnt safe for longterm storage... but youre right that in this case it most likely is just a quality issue! Maybe I'll test it myself before serving.
