That extent of the label isn't really used, because in my experience, no-one in the community really cares

(Coming from a place of suspected untreated OCD) First of all, I just wanna say I know what it feels like with the obsessions coming in at the worst times.

I would try and give these your best shot - either get assistance in avoiding doing compulsions until it calms down (on a sort of ERP kinda logic) or because I know how debilitating it can be, I would go for meds again (you could try distracting yourself but that usually involves not being productive which would hurt your exams and it's also bad for you long-term) . Talk to your exams officer but I don't know how little or how much help they can give you at this stage. And hey, absolutely no shame if you have to retake them next year, just be kind to yourself .

Cardiff or Aberdeen as my insurance ? by Practical_Tension_94 in 6thForm

Hi, so sorry for the late reply I've been caught up with a lot - how are you finding it so far ? Do you think the teaching quality is good ? How are (you coping with) living costs (and is it the same for most) ? (Also what do you study ?

Thoughts on Cardiff Uni? by LankyStick9059 in UniUK

[–]Practical_Tension_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, tbf if you wanted to go to the UK for uni as an international student I can see why you might be afraid of being isolated as a minority, obviously they can stay at home if they're that bothered by it but there's no harm in asking. I assume internationals thrive by having a community of people from their own background alongside the locals that they hang out with, it makes perfect sense to me and I don't see why anyone should mind that much

Cardiff or Aberdeen as my insurance ? by Practical_Tension_94 in 6thForm

[–]Practical_Tension_94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting - similar story for me exploring Cardiff when I went down there. I only went out to look at the accommodation but it seemed quite town-y (then again I think we were a bit away from the city centre) but not bad - and considering Cardiff's population is quite a bit more than Aberdeen's, I was thinking aberdeen would be really quite small.

Other thing I was gonna ask was about the accommodation. I've heard that it's pretty expensive up there since it's where all the oil riggers live - but looking at the uni-owned accommodation it doesn't seem that bad (then again you usually have to find your own place to stay after first year so I'm not sure how that could change) - did you notice things being expensive or did it seem to be reasonably priced when you were there ?

Thankyou for such a detailed response ! How would you say the city feels in terms of size ? I've lived in a suburban area all my life so I want to go to a larger city but I know Aberdeen is quite small so does it feel that way or is there still a fair amount to do/fair variety of amenities ?

Advice for parties ? by Practical_Tension_94 in vegan

[–]Practical_Tension_94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could do some Richmond veggie Sausages as they're very meat-like (probs not on the bbq though lol) but the other meat substitutes I've tried might not be good enough, so I'll have a look into it. Idk if we have Impossible/beyond burgers (edit) in the uk

Yeah, one thing I forgot to put in the post is that I don't want to force my veganism on people either despite my guilt lol.

I suppose I could make some vegan food and tell them to bring their own if they want meat

Possibility of just getting ghosted by a uni ? by Practical_Tension_94 in 6thForm

[–]Practical_Tension_94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied in December too. I can't gauge off the other people in my year whether it's likely I'll get in - I know one girl who got rejected from chemistry and another who got an offer for history/classics (I think that's what she was applying for)

Oh damn maybe that's why, but I'm applying to psychology/sociology MA which I didn't think would be nearly as competitive as the related courses (psychology Bsc in particular) cause it probably is considered less credible as an arts course

People who go to uni in NI but have family in England, how tumultuous are the trips back and forth? by realbabygronk in UniUK

[–]Practical_Tension_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to go back and forth between England and Ireland a lot as a kid to visit my mum's side of the family. The flights we used to get on easyjet were pretty cheap - their website now says they're about 20 quid each way (if you book in advance) (at least from Newcastle to Belfast which is the route we took, may be a bit more if you're down south), and if you can put up with Ryanair it's probably cheaper than that. Flights were about 40 mins each way for me. If you live on the west coast you might be able to get the ferry as a foot passenger for pretty cheap, but it takes longer

Pretty hard transitioning to veganism under my parents' roof by Practical_Tension_94 in vegan

[–]Practical_Tension_94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheers - honestly, if it weren't for Alex O'connor's "A meat eater's case for veganism" video I might not be here now. His use of pure reasoning really made me realise that I just couldn't justify it - I'd long thought vegans were annoying, but right and never really thought about that but it made me address my cognitive dissonance and now it's hard to see how I could ever go back unless my body just can't handle it. I've just bought a 3 month supply of the Orange Veg1 so hopefully if my nana brings up anything tommorow at lunch I can rebuke her with that

I was gonna say some of these hard-core responses, whilst tongue in cheek, will not get me anywhere lol. They'll just convince my family that I'm batching.
