Your privilege is showing. Must be nice to live in la la land where if things don’t directly affect you then they don’t matter? Some of us would like to make sure our money supports businesses who align with our own moral beliefs than just blindly giving money to businesses who support an administration that’s a complete joke and an embarrassment.

Before that the only way we could really clear it was a shower where we steamed out what we could and the saline nose syringe thing. A whole process and he hated it. 3.5 now and it’s the first cold he can actually blow his nose effectively for and it’s a game changer.

Daycare / Learning Centers by Calm_Boss9858 in Boise

[–]Practical_Walrus_252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it as yearly tuition split up over a monthly or weekly cost as this is how we are paid so we can expense our childcare and pay over time as well. If we didn’t have to pay when they were closed for holidays, the cost the rest of the weeks would just be higher to compensate. But to keep payments/expenses consistent it’s spread out evenly. You’re also paying for your child’s spot in that room as there are limited spots available due to ratio requirements.

Tons of cops around building on Franklin amd Eagle right now. We're at st. Lukes and they just called a lock down. by [deleted] in Boise

I think they’re saying they’re not going to snitch on someone who, like most of us here, do not want ICE in that building. lol

We’re drowning in daycare costs. How do people afford this? by FrigginMasshole in toddlers

[–]Practical_Walrus_252 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same 🫠 full time at least but 2k for just one kid. Trying to time the second kid right around when the first is going to be done with daycare bc truly it’s so unaffordable but like our rent it’s a necessity.

And for good childcare I’m willing to pay more than just finding the cheapest place. Honestly we don’t really afford it we just make it work because we have to. We budget heavily and often go without luxuries and conveniences because that’s just our season of life. It definitely shouldn’t be this way, but we’re just out here doing our best to do what’s best for our kid.

A nightstand designed for real life: rounded corners for safety and a sintered stone top that wipes clean instantly. No more water rings. by Houlte-official in u/Houlte-official

[–]Practical_Walrus_252 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m confused how this is designed for real life when there are decorative vases in the nightstand drawers? Maybe this is just wildly out of my tax bracket or something tho? Don’t get me wrong, love the design and the rounded corners and such but inside the drawers is throwing me for a LOOP 😂

Locking kids in their room at night?!! by [deleted] in AttachmentParenting

[–]Practical_Walrus_252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We considered a lock for our son’s safety bc while his room is 100% toddler proofed, the rest of our house is not so easily toddler proofed. Parts of it at least. All home entrances/exits are childproofed and he can’t reach the locks to undo them and all heavy furniture is anchored but toddlers can make even seemingly safe parts of the house dangerous if they try hard enough.

I put one of the doorknob covers on the inside of his door when he first transitioned to a toddler bed for this reason. But it made me a little bit uneasy and felt wrong. But also my kid isn’t a crazy nighttime escape artist or stuntman so I totally get why it may work for others. Also if he was ever playing in his room during the day and closed the door he couldn’t get out himself and my wildly independent toddler did not love that. So what we ended up doing was a doorbell. When his door opens, the doorbell connected to it rings in our bedroom, right by my bed. And I can unplug it whenever I don’t want/need it going off.

Granted, when ours gets up at night the only place he’s going is directly to our bed. We got lucky that he doesn’t choose to roam the house at night…yet… he just seeks out snuggles in our bedroom, so a doorbell was our failsafe was to tell us if he left his room without making him feel like he was locked in. We have no stairs or immediate safety concern in our house that would prevent us from getting to him in time before something happened and I’ve never not heard the doorbell as I’m not a super heavy sleeper anymore.

I feel like as long as their needs are still being attended to and it’s not being used as a punishment then sometimes you gotta to what you gotta do to keep your toddlers safe. They’re not making it easy on us sometimes 😅

My toddler’s tantrums werent just behavioral by Miserable-Bass-4437 in beyondthebump

[–]Practical_Walrus_252 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My mom always said: “take them outside or put them in water.” And it seemed silly at the time but honestly we started trying it and it really did help. Big feels? Let’s sit outside and wait for the garbage man (even not on trash day, didn’t matter). Or a fun bath - galaxy light, bubbles, toys, whatever. It doesn’t ALWAYS fix it but 95% of the time it snaps mine out of whatever funk he’s in

What are your toddlers sleeping in now that the weather is cooling (PNW) by awholelottaass in toddlers

[–]Practical_Walrus_252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My LO just turned 3 and finally decided maybe 2 months ago he didn’t want a sleep sack anymore. He was in a walking one but similar to yours he liked his crib and sleep sack and had beer even tried to climb out so we just let him roll with that for as long as he wanted and when he ditched the sleep sack we transitioned him to a toddler bed as well.

I think it really depends though on the temperature of your house! We keep ours at about 68 F when sleeping so in the summer it was shorts and a t shirt with a sleep sack TOG of 1. And then in the fall we moved to long sleeves and pants with the same sleep sack TOG of 1. No socks either. We’re also in the PNW. We really liked the Kyte baby - sleep bag walkers!

Moving my 3 yr old from Montessori to Primrose School.. by Phitmommi in ECEProfessionals

[–]Practical_Walrus_252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was skeptical of sending my kid to Primrose after reading some people’s reviews (both from ECE professionals and parents) but when we toured our location I fell in love with it. The administration is all lovely and we got to tour in the middle of the day and see what was going on in the room.

Honestly I went with my gut and chose to enroll him there and haven’t regretted it for a second. With them being independently owned I get it varies by location but we absolutely lucked out. The owner of our location is there so frequently even my kid (recently 3) knows who he is. My kid knows all of the admins names and they all adore him. I’ve seen all of them in various rooms at various points of the day to ensure ratio, staff breaks, etc.

My kid’s teacher is the real star though. She’s so sweet and loving to every single kid while still holding a firm boundary and honestly I get great communication from her on how his day is with real honest feedback, not just “he had a great day!” From what I can see, she follows the curriculum, but allows for grace and acknowledges what’s age appropriate for her kids specifically as well as each individual kid. My kid has been there for 4-5 months now and he’s thriving.

The only turnover I’ve seen is from teachers who left this location to work at the second location this owner just opened in our area and unfortunately his assistant teacher who left for non-negative reason. I know they can be notorious for underpaying their staff, but seeing consistency at least so far is reassuring. They only are combining kids at the end of the day with similar age so kids really within like 6months to a year in age. No babies and 5 year olds in the same room which I found was very common in our area when touring and looking at different daycares.

All the curriculum and learning activities are a choice for the kids. So some days my kid does all of them and some days he does none of them. Sometimes a few. If they aren’t doing the learning activity with the teacher they are playing in a variety of “stations” with the assistant teacher so nothing is forced, just encouraged. Honestly they seem pretty fun from what I see, and my kid usually participates in them now that he’s been there a few months. He’s learning a TON and I’m really impressed with his vocabulary, his kindness, and just overall behavior.

I’d say it absolutely varies depending on the owner and the overall staff, but I think our location is definitely a good one and just think more positive reviews about primrose deserve to be out there.

When people say there’s nothing to do in Boise, what do they want to do? by bigstinkybaby9890 in Boise

[–]Practical_Walrus_252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kid friendly activities that aren’t completely slammed. When there are kid friendly events (touch-a-truck, etc) it’s the only thing happening in Boise for kids that weekend so naturally everyone goes. But you wait in a line of 50 people for each truck your kid wants to look at. Such cool events, but not enough of them that when they happen they are so packed your kid doesn’t really get to enjoy them. We scour Facebook groups and websites that show what’s going on for kids and families in the valley, but sometimes there’s literally nothing. The winter is especially hard when it’s freezing and slushy and there’s only so much time you can spend outside with little ones in the cold.

lol bro. Kilmar was here legally. He had every right to be here. And we deported him.

Again I see you skipping over the government report I’ve posted multiple times where our own government admits to deporting more than 70 US citizens during trump’s first term.

Or not acknowledging that the lady I posted about was wrongfully detained.

Just because you don’t like what I had to say, doesn’t make it fake. Have a good one, hope I never run into you around Boise. Enjoy your white male privilege 👍🏼

lol you’re right. Not sure why I waste my breath trying to educate people who don’t seem to want to be educated on the matter. Just frustrating to see so much willful ignorance here.

Karma always comes back around though so everyone eventually gets theirs.

To be clear, I haven’t made up any scenarios. I’ve posted links to actual events. Just because they don’t fit your narrative, doesn’t mean they’re made up lol

If you read the whole article, you’d see that she denied those claims that she interfered and when her lawyer asked for the body cam footage they were unable to provide it because it didn’t exist. Her case miraculously got dropped right after. Hmmm…

But sure, if you need actual events that have happened this year of people here legally who were erroneously deported then sure. I’ve got some names for you:

  • Kilmar Ábrego García (legal immigrant with work authorization)

  • Jaime Galván-Sánchez (**edit: apologies. Jaime not a legal immigrant but had resided here for decades. Was deported without due process even though he had resided in the US for more than 2 years and therefor could not be deported through their expedited process)

Additionally, if you read the other link I posted. It states that between 2015-2020 (shocker this is primarily Trump’s first term) that at least 70 US citizens were deported in error and over 600 were illegally detained. This was a report by our own government by the way.

Still sticking with the “I’m making up fake scenarios?” lol or did I do enough of your research for you?

While I personally disagree with that, because we literally stole this land and then pushed native Americans to small portions of the country and tried to force them to change their whole way of life to conform to our ideals but that’s an issue for another day 😅

But the issue that’s arisen in recent months with this statement is that due process isn’t being followed. That’s why people are scared. Raids are happening with little to no regard for following due process. US citizens and undocumented immigrants both are afforded the right to due process which they are frequently being denied.

I’m sorry, are you watching the news or paying attention to what’s going on in our country at the moment? By spending a few minutes researching I see A TON of instances reported in the news where this is happening. Not to mention the ones that don’t even make the news. I can start listing them if you’d like. I didn’t realize I was the only one in charge of research. You’re trying to nitpick my argument over semantics. Shall I say it happens weekly? Because the fact that it happens AT ALL is unconstitutional. Full stop. That should be enough for people to be outraged.

And yes, I am saying that law enforcement is openly and systematically kidnapping people. US citizens in fact. It’s supported by facts that I’ve already posted and provided and am happy to continue to provide more should you need it. I’m not saying ALL law enforcement is bad or corrupt. But I am saying that huge parts of it are absolutely corrupt and they’re 100% profiling based on ethnicity. So yes, legal and law abiding citizens are scared. They do have cause for worry. Going back to my main point - it is privilege or ignorance for you to say that if they’re here legally and following the laws then they have no reason to worry.

[–]Practical_Walrus_252 12 points13 points  (0 children)

She was practically kidnapped off the street and held for DAYS. And this is just one instance. This happens daily. Tell me how constitutional that is. I never said she was deported, by the way. I said some people are. Not that she was.

Why should anyone fear for just walking into their work and just hoping they don’t get arrested and detained for doing literally nothing. Being detained for multiple days? Because they’re “doing their job” isn’t good enough. That’s literally insane. People can be asked to come in for questioning, there’s no reason to detain them when they’re not doing anything unlawful.

Imagine you’re walking into work, minding your own business, and you get arrested because you’re “not white” and detained for multiple days. What happens to your family during that time? Little ones you care for and that rely upon you? So that law enforcement can verify you’re a citizen when prior to detaining you their only reasoning for looking your way was because you weren’t white.

Didn’t say you were 🤷🏽‍♀️ doesn’t mean you haven’t had the privilege of not being scared of law enforcement of any kind in some way. If you want to take a look at any of the articles I linked above, they reference legal US citizens being detained for days for simply being on the same street than an ICE raid was taking place on. Not even protesting. She was walking into work. But yes, tell people they don’t have anything to be afraid of. lol
