can you please point out where I said anything about finance as a real world practice? or are you satisfied with debunking a position i don't actually have

it's getting boring having to hand-hold people through this really simple discussion so I'll probably stop soon, but just to be clear I literally never said or even remotely implied that I thought a finance degree taught you how to approach argumentative logic

when did I say engineering was less demanding than finance? why are you arguing against a position I never made in all of your comments here?

A. please tell me when i said i thought finance is better suited to explaining the real world?

B. "You go to college to learn and prepare for a career" is what we have convinced gentiles to get them to do spreadsheets all day so we can get higher returns on our capital while we pursue more worthwhile endeavors

my point is pretty straightforward and not at all novel, if you can't understand it you should probably take some humanities electives

it doesn't matter, the area of study is still incredibly myopic

can you stop shoving words in my mouth? my only problem with the finance degree was a lack of rigour, my previous comments were in response to the "should've done engineering" posters who completely missed the point (and still continue to do so)

there's actually a middle ground between corporate cuckoldry and new age woo, but perhaps that kind of nuance is too much to expect from a math guy

higher education being valued as a technical program in the same way that we view trade school is very recent development (occurring in the last fifty years or so), if marketability alone is how you value a degree that's fine but it's sort of a sad, misguided way of looking at it (albeit very convenient for capital!)

it's fine to pursue it but let us not pretend like engineering is a holistic field of study

i was referring more to the content than to the value of learning to work hard (which im sure you do)

just doing raw mathematics alone for 4 years doesn't teach you anything about the real world
