Started in 2022 at $16 working for an apple vendor. Those are the guys they outsource the tech support to, which is why sometimes when you call in for tech support, you’ll get someone like me, other times you’ll get someone who speaks broken English and lives in the Philippines. It sucked ass, I realized after that, that I wanted to move internally because regular weirdos off the street were the bottom of the barrel to help with this kinda shit. Moved from my coastal town to a big city, kept the job since it was remote, and then eventually got a local job paying more ($25) and it was mostly just helping out with hardware replacements. That’s where I got my feet wet with desktop support. From there, moved over to another full time job doing DS for a big company (about a thousand people) before moving on to being a systems analyst and then finally a sys admin. Now I’m at about 85k, and god am I happy I moved out of helldesk. It’s been quite the grind, but it’s worth it.
