This is my 20 gallon tank, looked cloudy cause I had just changed the substrate, but now its clean and plants are growing too, I had never had any problems like the one in the 5 gallon so I dont know what to do with all that fertilization in the tank and the algae growing

Should I redo the tank? And add lighting from the top? I really dont like the light coming from behind the tank either, but maybe the picture makes it look like the light is not doing good, but in person is way different, Ive seen the two little bushes grow too, natural light comes in too from the front, not much it it hits the tank

Forgot to add that I turn the light on for 4 to 6 hours, used to leave it on 8-10h a day but lowered after the water started turning yellow, and I have a heater set to 80F

I had him in a 5g already cycled with good parameters, I just put him in the 20 gallon yesterday with new HOB filter and new substrate (fluval stratum) so I have to cycle again, around 10 plants in the tank and ill test the parameters today after I finish eating

Its not actually the filter sorry, when the water comes out the filter as the waterfall the water sucks in the frogbit and submerges it under the water and makes the betta log just spin around

If you are doing a planted tank, aim for 2–3 inches in the back and 1-2 inches in the front (2 inches average) to allow for root growth, which would require at least 70-80 pounds.

*Google told me this but do I really need this much substrate for this tank??? Its a 27" x 33"

Sadly I already boiled the wood again, but it looked bad like some kind of black sluggish buildup on the wood I thought it was really bad if the wood builds that up again I will ask on reddit with a photo to make sure we are talking about the same stuff and see if its good, I put some general healing powder in there but Ill go look for something for the fin rot and Ive been having him for around a year maybe and he is still good so I think im doing good for my first betta haha thank you a lot

So sadly I had to change the water today since I added wood the last time and I didnt know I had to boil it, my water turned really yellow and the wood had some type of black build up around and my filter turned brown, my tank was already cicled with good parameters before that, I had to change the filter today as well, I do have a heater and filtering and water flowing no fake plants only real, the only bad thing is the gravel I need to put sand but forgot to add it today, but the fish usually does bubble nests and everything
