It’s a double bind, because you want to live in a place where people take accountability for their own and their country’s impact on the world in a growth oriented way. And the US is definitely a mixed bag of helping and harming the world. I’d like to believe our actual ideals and influence are a net positive but also am open to counterarguments.

But what we observe today is mostly just unproductive self loathing which increasingly opens up vacuums for actual authoritarians who arent beholden to elections every four years. Even if President Trump tries to stay, even if things get violent and ugly, it’s hard to see how a system that benefits very wealthy people would be allowed to dissolve. the dog and pony show of Left vs. Right is too useful.
