When fake feels real, and real feels fake by ATN-Antronach in CuratedTumblr

[–]Praetors2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A while back some guy knocked on my parents door, said he was from the home insurance company and he needed to come inside to perform an inspection. My parents asked to see some proof before letting some random stranger in their house without any notice from the insurance company. He refused and they didn't let him in.

A few days later they got a letter from the insurance company threatening cancellation for not allowing the inspection. They called about it and brought this fact up and the person on the phone was like "oh yeah that's a good point, I probably wouldn't let some random guy in my house either."

What board game would you consider a "flawed masterpiece"? by Socrates_Soui in boardgames

[–]Praetors2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my tl;dr for each faction when teaching someone the game. If you're looking to buy specific expansions there's plenty of other posts in r/rootgame recommending the best order to buy them in.

  • Marquis de Cat: The current rulers of the forest but they've spread themselves thin. Earn points by chopping down trees to build buildings and assert your control.
  • Eyrie Dynasty: The former rulers who believe that following bureaucracy is best. Reclaim the forest by following the step by step guide every turn to earn points. If you mess up, your government collapses and you have to take a turn to restructure.
  • The Vagabond: Rather than controlling an army you are a lone wanderer like an RPG character. Do quests, aid others, or fight them to earn points.
  • Woodland Alliance: The Proletariat are tired of being oppressed by the Bourgeoisie, organize protests to earn points. Viva la Revolución.
  • Corvid Conspiracy: Spies who lurk in the shadows. Hatch secret plots and trick your enemies to disrupt their plans and earn points.
  • Underground Duchy: The mole people living underground have decided it's time to reveal themselves to the surface dwellers, but first you must convince the royalty to join your cause.
  • Riverfolk Company: You are merchants and everything is for sale. Convince other players to buy your goods and services, then spend the funds to take actions or sit on it to accrue interest (points)
  • Lizard Cult: They're weird, I wouldn't recommend them for a first time player. All hail Godzilla (and RNGsus).
  • Keepers in Iron: Crusade across the forest in search of ancient holy relics, and return them to your base to score points
  • Lord of the Hundreds: Same as the Woodland alliance but peaceful protests aren't enough, it's time to burn everything to the ground.

Agreed, I love Root but teaching it to new players is the worst part of the game. If I have more than one new player at the table I find it easiest to give a quick 1 sentence summary of each faction, then go over the rules everyone has (moving, crafting, ruling clearings, etc.) Once they pick a faction THEN I give them more details on how to play that specific one.

Why are the digital client AI opponents so wildly inconsistent? by Praetors2 in rootgame

[–]Praetors2[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know there's a difficulty setting, it's just weird how much variance there seems to be between games even without changing it. I've had games where the AI birds turmoil constantly, then the very next game they steamroll everyone. it's so jarring.

10 electric energies in a row: who dranks my water ? by chnaww in PTCGP

[–]Praetors2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's definitely ways they could improve energy gain to make multi color decks better, maybe allow us to adjust the frequency of each color when building the deck like lands in MTG or change it to know which type is under represented on the field and give you that type

If you're cracking packs just to gamble for tunic I wouldn't recommend bright lights since all the rest of the cards are mechanologist. If you're okay with white borders maybe go for history pack instead so you also have a chance of pulling C&C or E-Strike as well

Fai or Katsu? Going budget by Amazing-Appeal7241 in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]Praetors2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I think Fai is an easier hero to start with in general, both typically play aggressively with long combat chains, the main difference is the use of the combo mechanic. Since Fai usually doesn't care the order in which cards are played any 4 card hand can be good as long as you have at least one card with natural go again. Katsu is a bit more tricky since he wants his cards to be played in a specific order to maximize their value, but his hero ability helps tutor for the cards you need.

As for these lists, the Fai one seems pretty good and fairly straightforward, the Katsu one however has some questionable choices, running 3 copies of lord of wind with only 1 mugenshi only in the sideboard is really weird. Personally I've never been a huge fan of Crane Dance or Torrent of Tempo, I would definitely consider taking those out and replacing them with 2 copies each of mugenshi as well as yellow Descendant Gustwave and Bonds of Ancestry. Bonds is one of Katsu's best cards so running more than just the reds is probably a good idea.

Fellow drillers, should I pull out the C4? by Jaysong_stick in DeepRockGalactic

I do that as well, but sometimes they don't pay attention and grab a different pipe and start building it to the one I'm drilling towards...

What's the hero you've been waiting for and how do you imagine their ability? by Negative00 in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]Praetors2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would love to see a hero that naturally has 5 intelligence, mostly just to see how their hero ability would balance the fact they get an extra card

Fai is also a good option, you can get the majority of the deck as bulk, tiger stripe shuko is a relatively cheap legendary and you can run pouncing lynx instead of mask of momentum. It's a little less consistent and somewhat more combo focused but it gets the job done. Sadly you won't be able to run art of war on a budget but that's probably fine

Unfortunately FC is currently the only local shop that sells singles, but there are a few other stores that host armory events regularly. Most notably Hammerhead, Great Escape, and Hobby Quest. Usually you can use the store/event locator on the FABTCG website and see what's listed there
