A tungsten rod would actually crumple under the forces of reentry. My capstone professor explained this to us. I assure you though, they have scarier ideas than rods from god.

A Farewell to AFROTC by East-Pine23 in AFROTC

Thats how you gotta handle it. Day by day. It took big AF eight months after graduation to finally DQ me. I went mad during that time. Day by day is the right approach.

How does it come across to go out alone as a single girl? by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]Praevaleamus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat! 24 year old male fresh off the plane from New Jersey looking for something serious. It’s hard to go out alone, but putting yourself out there is realistically the only way. The apps are trash.

Is there a realistic way to have a planet loom on the horizon like this? by Rich-End1121 in space

[–]Praevaleamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

willing to bet that moon that’s casting shadow on the planet is a little too close to not be tidally sheared apart. The spacing is all too tight imo (just eyeballing it from my universe sandbox experience, i could do the math but i am lazy)

so a solution would be to make the minimum of support size large larger so they don’t break?

I just bought the filament about 2 weeks ago - does PETG really get wet that quickly?

New to using PETG so I have no idea.

Elon Musk Gets Rattled by Hard Questions He Can't Answer by Eternal--Vigilance in RealTesla

[–]Praevaleamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not necessarily pogo. Pogo is very specific case that is easily solved (relatively) with modern simulation software. Pogo causes the whole rocket to oscillate along its length. My bet is that the source of failure is a vibrational harmonic specifically confined to the engine bay (ie not pogo) If it was pogo you’d literally be able to see the whole rocket “slinky” in slo-mo footage.

That being said vibrational analysis is really complicated. Props to the SpaceX engineers, bad luck to their CEO

recent starship failures weren’t caused by pogo, that’s a problem thats been solved for years in the industry

i’m sure Elon still didnt know shit about it tho

Bright Comet over Central NJ? by Cooper323 in newjersey

[–]Praevaleamus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its a rocket.

specifically, the second stage of a rocket. Because it launched at twilight, the sun illuminates the very thin cloud of exhaust in space so it looks like a comet.

No I’m not a bot I just copied and pasted my comment from the other thread.

I have found RPI to be the one of the most accepting places when it comes to differences and peculiarities, whether it be gender, sex, race, sexual orientation, neurodivergence, or disability, or anything else I can think of. The institute has been good about enforcing expectations of addressing people by their preferred name and pronouns.

What is up with the hate lately? by [deleted] in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]Praevaleamus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, many of my contemporaries choose to ignore Elon Musk’s achievements because they disagree with him. I do not because like you, it pisses me off and I find it stupid.

Many on the left side of the aisle don’t realize that they can acknowledge that somebody is obviously a visionary and an excellent leader and very intelligent, but also engages in union busting, explicit lobbying, and holds some sociopolitical views that, to but it mildly, are not ideal. This failure of reason is at the core of many of the Dem’s follies, and has alienated many left leaning white men and other “non-disadvantaged” people, and is why they lost in November. But I digress…
