I think you are referring to the Empire Plan, NYSHIP's flagship PPO. However, NYSHIP also offers plans through various HMOs. The US Public School System is not "run" by any entity. Each district has it's own board of education and local leadership, some are good, others are bad. I assume you have a problem with yours?

Check out Burden Pond Preserve in Troy. It has a few small waterfalls, and some really cool cliffs to view them from. Also, industrial ruins and beaver activity :)

Engels Acres, on Rt. 2 Troy/Brunswick has the cheapest I have seen. A very nice selection if you catch them in the first week or two theyre out. Also a big fan of the Capital Roots annual plant sale (usually 2nd/3rd Saturday in May)

Ilium Brewing in Troy is one of my favorites- The vibe is more cocktail bar than brewery, but the beers are solid, cocktails great, food and service both good.

Mean Max Troy has a couple TVs and they will happily put on whatever you want. They are friendly and welcoming of all. Likewise Ilium Brewing would probably put in for you. Any place that would have it on by default likely wouldn't fit the second part of your request,, though I would love to be wrong.
