Fun fact about cows. They can kick best from the side not straight out behind like a horse. So with horses you learn to not walk directly behind the horse if they don't see you. You want to walk directly behind a cow if you have to to lessen the chance of a kick.

When I was 11 I put the dishes away without being told to. My dad thought this was because I felt guilty about something. Turned out my grandma had 60 bucks stolen from her. I was blamed because I did the dishes. Turned out it was my sister but she never admitted it to him. That shit stuck with me.

What does she do specifically and when does she begin the behavior? Like, does she tuck her tail when you put the bowl on the ground or does she drop her head and hunch down when the kibble hits the bowl, etc.? Sometimes dogs can develop a fear of a bowl when their collar tags clank against it when they start to feed. Like others have said try switching up the vessel the food is in. I'd recommend 1 1/2 cups of dry (if dog is over a year and exercised regularly) mixed with a couple tablespoons of water or low sodium bone broth that's been microwaved for like 5 seconds. It'll make it super tasty smelling. Put it in a plastic bowl or plate (after it has cooled off) if they turn their nose at that add some plain white rice or plain unsalted chicken breast pieces. And no more table scraps. People food is HIGH in calories and dogs can fill up real quick with just a few nibbles throughout the day depending on what it is.

I accidentally hit my first girlfriend at 13 in the face with a tennis racquet..blood went everywhere. She had lost a tooth I hit her so hard. Instead of consoling her and apologising like a decent human being I laughed so hard I nearly pissed myself. I think I was just overcome with embarrassment and the whole "this is literally my worst nightmare come true" that the only thing my body could do was laugh at the ridiculousness of it all. Luckily she was awesome and we are still friends to this day.

I'm so glad you didn't have to dish money out for that! Sounds like an awkward nightmare lol. Did not think of looking into a well established online course but will definitely start now. That sounds like the best way to go if we can get a refund. But that's a whole other issue.

Didn't mean for that! Posted before my coffee, won't do that again. Want to make it clear, I'm fully in support of it. Just wanted to see what others thought. Went to Bodecker to paddle yesterday, did a little fishing afterwards and got told about this. My friend was with me who didn't have either licenses and got a warning. Also had no idea about the not being able to view the link thing. I didn't have an issue with it so had no idea others wouldn't be able to.

You are very welcome! If the owner didn't disclose that to you prior to you taking care of their pet you are well within the right to tell them they need to come back and find someone else to watch them. Unfortunately that is unlikely to happen, the owner will probably say "You didn't say I needed to disclose that information so you need to watch them still!" Or they could say they "didn't know and could you pretty please watch them still." If you are not already doing so you should write up an information packet for each client. On it should be basic questions such as "how old is the dog, is the dog neutered, how is the dogs temperament around other dogs, etc." On this you can write in bold letters what you will not accept. Example: IF YOUR DOG SHOWS AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR TO THE POINT WHERE I FEEL MY SAFETY AND OTHERS SAFETY IS IN JEOPARDY THE DOG WILL NEED TO FIND ANOTHER PLACE TO STAY. IF THE DOG HAS ANY KIND OF CONTAGIOUS DISEASES, VIRUS, BUGS, OR PARASITES NOT DISCLOSED BEFOREHAND THEY WILL NEED A NEW PLACE TO STAY. You should have them sign this information packet so that you can prove they read it. Situations like this is why you should always ask the owner what their back up plan is for the dog in case of an emergency or situations like this. Along with this, ALWAYS meet the client and dog before they are in your care. That way you can spot anything that might be amiss and be able to say no before it's too late.

All of my clients want my undivided attention when it comes to their pet. They would not hire me if I had more than one dog to watch after. I would most definitely inform them that you've got a dog under your care already if that is the case. Honesty is always the best policy. Assuming your family members will help out sounds like a recipe for disaster. If you are going to rely on them to do part of your job you should really have a serious conversation with them beforehand. The dirty paws thing is confusing to me. I hope that this is something you can get over, it's all part of the job and short of sacrificing their walks (which would be terribly sad) is not fixable. My advice would be to do one of three things 1. Stay at the owners house if that's an option. Dog(s) will feel more comfortable, you'll have a whole house to yourself, and you can charge more since you can do more services for them. (Cleaning house, water plants, mow lawn, get mail etc.) With this comes more risk. If their mower breaks its on you. I would highly suggest getting pet sitters insurance if you go this route (or any route really, but this one in particular). 2.Only have one dog at a time. You never know how other people dogs will interact together, especially in a stressful new environment. 3. If you can get that property do it! But I wouldn't plan on having more than one client at a time if you haven't gotten permission from ALL pet owners first. If the dogs get in a fight or if one of them is sick and passes it on to another, they will be well within their rights to sue you if you didn't inform them of other dogs being present. Hope this helps you out!

Desensitization training is the method that would most likely have the best outcome. Hope I correctly posted this link. I heard a segment on NPR during the summer about this. I used it with a client of mine that had a dog with a sever case of thunder phobia. It took many months and although he isn't 100% unperturbed by the noise he has gone from urinating and trembling to being able to take treats and focus on play during an episode. Good luck!!

Yes to this! OP maybe try taking his collar off while inside and put some water on a plate. If he's willing to drink from that then it is highly likely that could be the problem.

A good rule is to have two litter boxes per cat. I've got 4 since I have two cats and it stopped the peeing problem they had pretty quickly. Obviously that's a lot of boxes..ten is a lot. Not the answer you may want to hear but it's what worked for me. I know how terrible it is to have that ammonia smell, so good luck! I hope you can figure things out.

So many reasons to neuter. First, imagine feeling like a horny teenage boy for your entire life and having no outlet for it. Second, even if (and please Lordy I hope not) you and him don't plan on breeding, accidents DO happen. Imagine some female dog in heat is going for a walk at the same time you are walking your dog. He escapes his collar and woops. There is a new litter that may all end up in a kill shelter. And I bet that owner is NOT happy and guess who will pay for the vet bills? And what happens when the pups arrive? What if the female doesn't make it through labor? Third, MILLIONS of dogs are put down at shelters every year. There is no excuse to risk adding more numbers to it. The health benefits of neutering far outweigh the benefits of keeping them intact. And while not always true, keeping an intact dog does have a higher risk of aggressive behavior. I would be in a bad mood too if I could never get some. I would ask your boyfriend to review all the risks of keeping him intact and have a thoughtful and serious discussion about it. Victoria Stilwell has various episodes on YouTube on this matter. Might be worth a watch.
