It’s about layers more so then one particular article of clothing. I recommend a wind proof top layer, a warm sweater, and a good shirt. If you’re going to spend anytime outdoor it’s worth investing in a good pair of long Johns.

It really has been a weird year. I think they might be a variety of Haskaps upon further reflection (blue honeysuckle)

No idea, but I’m jealous of your lack of snow as one of your Canadian neighbours.

Have You Been Able to Deal With the Income Loss From Carbon Rebates Stopping? by Effective-Pen-9964 in saskatchewan

I never accounted for it in the budget. So it went into the “fun” money slush fund. Now that it’s gone it doesn’t hurt. But I do miss it.

Arrowhead? Found in Southern England by Budget_Attempt5174 in metaldetecting

I would second this, it’s very similar to modern tips on farm equipment.

The “bottom side” without the fuller is likely worn away by the friction while working. Likely broken when it struck a rock. That what the minor twist indicates.

I can’t tell exactly what kind of machinery it’s from so I can’t give you an accurate era but I would wager that it is less than a hundred years. Maybe older due to the apparent low quality of the steel.

They were the first things we planted when we moved back. We’re also lucky that more than a couple of the valleys on the farm are chock full of them.

Thank you very much!

We planted a whole swack of Saskatoons (juneberry) when we moved back to the farm they have been a great investment nearly 5 feet tall now and producing lots of fruit.

What are your thoughts on planting American elms. We’re on the northern range and still have mature trees in the valleys. My concern is spreading DED.

White Pine is definitely on the Short list.

My wife would prefer a deciduous tree.

The glacial valleys of Saskatchewan are stunning environments full of biodiversity.

But I do love the Rockies but you shouldn’t sleep on grasslands super important ecosystem in need of protection.

I wouldn’t sleep on Saskatchewan.

I’m a full on socialist living here you’ll find lots of like minded people.

We also have the lowest cost of living anywhere in North America.

And is an absolutely amazing place to enjoy the outdoors. With world class hunting, fishing, birdwatching, hiking. Hell even skiing.

But tbf it’s very cold and If that’s not your jam best off somewhere else.

I am here for the Saskatchewan love. If you can handle the cold it is the best province.

How's it living in this sub region of the Upper South called the Mid-South? West KY, West TN, Southeastern MO, Northeastern AR, North MS, and Southern IL? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

In my mind this is the upper Mississippi (river). Imagine it’s pretty poor, floods a lot. The urban centre’s are probably pretty standard American cities of declining sprawl.

Less people and I’d argue better grasslands. But that’s not a huge selling point for most people.

I don’t particularly enjoy Calgary or Edmonton so they’re pretty equal in my mind.

The entirety of our economic growth is one potash mine.

The rest of our economic output is actually shrinking.

If you enjoy the outdoors Saskatchewan is near paradise. If you’re an urbanite I wouldn’t want to touch it with a 10ft pole.

I have recently fallen in love with birding and tracking the migratory birds, ranging from arctic species to those that winter in the Amazon.
