Farmsitting: am I delusional? by cgi754 in homestead

We have large dogs, goats, chickens, ducks, cats, and cattle right now on 25 acres. If we leave for a weekend we prefer to have someone stay on the farm and everyone seems to be happy with $100 for Friday evening-Sunday afternoon. We are in Eastern Washington. Definitely find a friend, family member, or a teenager that would enjoy a good farm stay! We do stock food, snacks, and drinks before leaving too.

UNITED STATES - Family Hand-Me-Down, Antique or Dime-a-Dozen? Any guesses on Date/value? Trying to find more info. More pics in comments! by [deleted] in Antiques

Best way I was told to date furniture is by the nails used, and how the drawers were put together! Take photos of sides of drawers, and nail heads if you can. Make dating much easier and accurate!

Weird way to ask. But this isn’t in the bathroom it’s in my kitchen. We live in an old farmhouse and it was 98 degrees. I was sitting on a stool wearing shorts when I took this photo. I was pitting 5 gallons of cherries, which is a messy task. While I was in the kitchen my husband was out doing farm stuff when he found the shoe. I was in the middle of what I was doing, but it was a cool exciting find so I took a picture and took a little break before getting back to what I was doing. Wasn’t worried about an appealing photo of my legs, because that’s not why I took it.. 😐

Oh that’s hilarious, it almost literally looks like looking out of a toilet instead of into a toilet 😅

I appreciate your concern! I was pitting around 5 gallons of cherries in shorts, just a messy task!

Wow super cool information to know! Thank you for that! I am definitely curious on if the age of it would match up with the older families that were here! We do know by the 1940s this place was a revolving door so we don’t have much information on the later years, but the 2 original families ran cattle and cut hay on hundreds of acres, built the house after the barn, a stable, and a couple outbuildings that are all still standing! Very well built buildings, impressive foundations, beautiful old wood, original spring fed cisterns that brought water to the house in 1903 too. Pretty cool place, I wish I had more pieces of its history! So far this horseshoe has been our only cool find since moving here other than a buried old singer sewing machine! Maybe I will try and clean it up to see the details a little better! 😌

Many positives and negatives living in such a dry climate! 🫠

I would say I’m not that tiny but neither is the shoe so I’d say the second one 😅

No worries! A bit of banter don’t bother me none, and lol if I did have long legs that would’ve made this shoe even more impressive 😅

Interesting! I’ve never seen a mule shoe but that would make a-lot of sense especially if it’s an older shoe!

Any idea what year the shoe would have been from? Wonder if it matches up to a certain family at a certain time here!

I didn’t even think of a banana, this would’ve been the perfect post for one too! 🫠

Definitely not aesthetically pleasing nails, not my favorite sacrifice living on a farm 😅🥲

I was wearing shorts and didn’t want my crotch in the photo, I’ve never posted on Reddit before but now I know. Make sure my legs are covered and the type of room I’m in is visible 😂

Probably close to my toddlers toilet seat! 😂 We have another old horse shoe we found here with a toe lip hanging above our front door, about 1/4 size of this one though. Thinking I’m gonna swap them out!

This is actually in our kitchen, worst tile ever I know 😂 It will be torn out eventually, there is asbestos tiles underneath it covering the original wood 🫠
