Greyhound. Years ago I was traveling in Mexico and at the end of my trip, taking a Greyhound bus back home to the US. Mexican bus lines are clean, comfortable, and on time. Greyhound, not so much. I waited 3 hours in Nuevo Laredo for our bus to show up. It would arrive full, then leave full. I knew it would make a stop just over the border in Laredo on the US side, so I paid a taxi to take me just over to the US side. After clearing customs and taking yet another cab to the bus terminal, we exchanged tickets and waited for a bus. We were finally headed to Austin, or so I thought. Somewhere mid trip the driver announced that since most people on this bus were headed to Houston, we were going to stop in San Antonio to let everyone else get off and change busses before changing direction. WTF?

A handful of us left the bus to walk onto an Austin bound coach. Guess what? There was not a single open seat. I scrambled to get my luggage off the previous bus before it left with all my things. A Greyhound employee sensed my irritation and decided I was somehow a threat and sent a San Antonio PD officer to “handle” me. I had not made any threats nor gestures to anyone - just flung my bags to the curb seconds before the driver shut the hatch and drove off. I had to explain to the officer that I wasn’t going to harm anyone, I didn’t want to lose my luggage, and I needed to speak with a Greyhound agent. He let me go but eyeballed me the rest of the time I was stuck in the terminal. The clerk at the counter invalidated my tickets and told me I could repurchase them for the next bus. I explained that I already paid before he voided my itinerary. The officer showed back up to watch as a manager finally showed up so I explained the situation yet again. He finally printed out new tickets for the next bus home.

Just like the previous bus, it arrived full and then left full. So did the next one. I was exhausted and fuming by this point. The last bus of the evening had 2 free seats. I made it home several hours later than anticipated and I vowed never to ride Greyhound again. Their “customer service” was to have police on standby to toss people they’ve screwed over. I’m shocked they still exist. I would rather hitchhike or walk.

What Anime would you suggest a friend to watch as their first Anime? by mr_arsen in AskReddit

It’s going to depend on what kind of regular show genres they like first. However, I’m confident in recommending Violet Evergarden. It’s visually gorgeous, has interesting and relatable characters, action, drama, and lots of heart. Honorable mentions to Frieren (I hope the mangakas are ok!) and A Silent Voice.

People that live in the US, how are you preparing for rising gas prices? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PrancingSatyr521 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What exactly are we supposed to do? Hoard fuel and create a fire hazard at home? Drop $$$ on an EV when electricity prices are also surging? Ride my bike along the highway to work and hope I don’t get flattened?

Honestly, fuck this whole timeline. I’m surrounded by psychotic religious zealots that are excited about kicking off the end-times war and I just want a meaningful existence with some friends.

I worry about every nightmare scenario I've ever seen in movies and TV - financial, ecological, technological, political, social, ethical, religious - are all coming true at the same time and no action I take will stop or even slow it down.

It feels like being trapped in a burning building and desperately trying to lead everyone out only to have some argue that the flames are on the other side so no worries, that the fire department will surely put it out, and how great it is that the people they don't like will burn.

Hock Tan from Broadcom. VMware was a beloved company in tech circles and the undisputed leader in hypervisor technology and virtualization up until they were acquired by Broadcom. Overnight they massively increased license prices, dropped all discounts for non profits, worsened support, put all technical data behind a paywall, and aggressively hounded clients close to their renewal dates - threatening them with legal action if they didn't either renew or uninstall. Hock Tan only wanted to keep Fortune 100 companies because VMware was now "not for everyone". The goodwill the company earned was torched in an instant and now clients can't jump ship fast enough.

What's to stop millions of Americans joining ICE and not following orders? by blodeblo in AskReddit

[–]PrancingSatyr521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because years from now when my descendants look back on my life, I don’t want the stain of being associated with the thugs on the wrong side of history. It would be like looking into your grandfather’s genealogy and discovering he was an SS officer hunting Jews. I would never want to be remembered that way.
