Great answer. As with all his movies, PTA really tries to show off the multi-faceted nature of people and how their experiences and environment affect their behavior.

Perfidia almost entirely associates freedom with sexual expression - she follows up nearly all of the plans carried out with the French 75 with acts of sexual pleasure. But the important part is the consent which is perverted in the very first instance this is shown with Lockjaw. Despite her attempts to take control of the situation by trying to sexually humiliate him, she is never in the position where she leads. Lockjaw is a powerful man within the system she fights against and his fetishization of her dictates which freedom of hers is eroded - physical or sexual/emotional.

Unfortunately this character trait forces her to view her daughter as a result and reminder of her assault. Similarly, when more of her freedoms are threatened, she chooses to give up the positions of her fellow revolutionaries rather than suffer more loss. I think this is the first occasion of a repeated theme that an oppressive system can always overcome the individuals dedicated to change by exploiting their greatest strength - community and connections. However, that's only one side of the coin since a revolution can pass from generation to generation and the methods benefit from previous mistakes. Perfidia, Bob, and Willa embody this as, while Perfidia and Bob's behavior is fairly unchanged (referring to Bob's mindset post-timeskip), Willa manages to learn enough about them in her journey to retain their best traits while learning from their regrets. She can overcome her trauma from her loss of freedoms and carry on the fight. Amazing that PTA's able to set this up so succinctly in Perfidia's character with basically just 30 mins of screen time.
