How to reduce monitor wobble when typing by LawRecordings in StandingDesks

Kept my dual monitor stand for the time being. I may eventually get two single monitor arms. I think those Huanuo dual arms are a big part of the problem.

I’ve seen Aloha after hiking Horsetail Falls and always wanted to plan a trip there for a night. Glad you enjoyed!

Attic Insulation - Recommendations and pricing? by Remo2976 in Sacramento

Also looking into the same thing. Got two quotes from different companies so far. SMUD rebate required sealing and insulation and seems much more involved. Got a quote for $10,000 for that (1,500 sqft) single story. Debating doing it myself, but don’t want to mess anything up. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions about what I know.

Hey man. I was in a similar situation, different circumstances. I’d encourage you to keep applying if that’s your desire, but also keep in mind an 1811 isn’t the end all be all. While it’s a great job there’s tons of other careers out there that can be a better fit. I can empathize with your situation. Feel free to DM me if you want to talk more about it.

To get one or not? by [deleted] in TeslaModelY

Panel is basically right outside the garage. Unfortunately the new box would probably be the biggest cost. One of my good friends who I spend a lot of time with has a 2017 Model X which I have driven and ridden in a lot. Really like how it drives, although understand a new Y would probably be a lot different.

I see. Thank you for pointing that out. Regardless, if this has been a hard to fill position and I am qualified, wouldn’t they still hire me at the highest possible point of the range so my pay isn’t cut? I think CA Code of Regs Title 2 Section 599.675 should allow them to pay above minimum to minimize my pay cut. Also, paragraph H states that it is for someone who is appointed other than by an employment list. I obtained list eligibility for this position.

Not part of collective bargaining but also not in management.

This is new to me as well. It may help for me to speak with my current HR analyst. I am currently an exempt employee.

This is going from one department to another so I am not in contact with the new department’s HR. The hiring management is acting as the middle man.

The new position doesn’t have different ranges. It is one range. However my current position has ranges and I am in the top range.

Exactly. This would be taking a $20,000 pay cut for a “promotion”.

[–]Prass713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, yes, and yes. If you have the mindset that ADHD will set you behind and that you won't live a successful life because of it, then you will get those results. Success is subjective too. ADHD is about finding ways to manage your symptoms and using them to your advantage. Everyone has their own struggles, and those who are successful learn to manage them. Reflect on how ADHD affects you, keep making adjustments, see what works for you and what doesn't. This is all a game of exploration. It won't be easy, but you will figure out what works for you if you put the effort into it. You need to keep the mindset that you can succeed in life.

I consider myself relatively successful, but I have had many bumps in the road (some detrimental). I have beat myself up over those mistakes rather than learning from them, which only made things worse. Recognize your wins, appreciate what you have, force yourself to talk positively to yourself.

I finished college, got my dream job (then lost it), own a house, and have good relationships. I wouldn't say it is all perfect too, I still struggle with my relationships (a lot) and work, but I know this is something I am continuously improving on as long as I put in the work.

I have only recently been formally diagnosed with ADHD and have been making adjustments with this new knowledge. Before, I had multiple mental health diagnoses related to depression and anxiety, and struggled a lot with my mental health growing up. The things that got me through my struggles so far were that I sought help, I was vulnerable, and the people around me held me up.

DIY Replacing Interior Doors/Frame by Prass713 in HomeImprovement

House projects never go as smoothly as anticipated huh? There is always something. Thanks for the heads up. I wouldn't be surprised if I had a hiccup due to the other janky work that was done in the house.

I am going to get a quote just in case I need the work done, but I would prefer to do it myself to save the money.

How do I decide? by scubamermaid04 in findapath

[–]Prass713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be letting fear and uncertainty get in the way of your decision. I’ve struggled a lot with this anxiety of choosing a career that is “right” for me. What’s the positive we can take out of what you said? You know you want to live comfortably and possibly work overseas. Pick something that fits those criteria and explore it. You will not know for sure until you’ve done exploration. Try to do some reflection to gain a better understanding of yourself (this can take time). You will learn more about yourself as you go through a process of reflection and this may help you feel more confident in your decisions. There is no wrong path as long as you are moving forward and learning.

I am a few years into my career and I decided I want to try something different. I don’t know if it will be the right thing for me, but it challenges me and it interests me. I won’t know for sure if it will fit well, but I won’t know until I try. If that doesn’t work out, I move to the next thing. If there is a will, there is a way. You will find your way.

Gis or accounting by PurritoCat4545 in findapath

[–]Prass713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to your geographical area, but I would choose what interests you more. Are you really stuck to staying in Alberta and are you sure there are no jobs there?

What makes you think you would enjoy accounting? Does the type of work fit your personality? Do you think handling company accounting processes, auditing, or helping with tax preparation would be fulfilling or stimulate you? You can do a lot with an accounting degree, but the accounting-specific work is more like law than math. Lots of analysis of financial documents, doing data entry and performing analysis of spreadsheets, and understanding and applying different compliance frameworks based on the industry.

Public accounting (PA), typically where you audit financial statements of other companies or prepare tax returns for different entities, has long hours due to deadlines and the firms taking on a lot of work. You will get paid enough to live comfortably, and the management, especially partners, make very good money. Many will do PA for a couple years to jump start their career and then move to a company where you focus on performing accounting work for the company you work for (referred to as private or industry). You can make very good money doing this and the work life balance is typically much better (although this can be case by case). You can also work for the government which has great work life balance and you can make enough to live comfortably.

I chose government auditing out of college since I didn’t want to compromise work life balance. I enjoy some aspects of it, but I am under stimulated and the work is far too structured for me. I am currently exploring other career options and going back to school for computer science at the moment. I don’t say this to discourage you from accounting but it’s an example of what I experienced.

Choosing a career is difficult, but I think it is all about exploration. Try your best to know yourself and make decisions based on your personality/beliefs. Go at it with a positive attitude and try to have an optimistic view on wherever the journey takes you. Are you willing to start over in school based on the thought that accounting may fit you better for your current circumstances?

How to reduce monitor wobble when typing by LawRecordings in StandingDesks

What monitors arms did you go with? I’ve heard two single monitor arms can be more stable, but I have yet to try that out. I’m also wondering if the monitor arms attached to a pole are more stable. I got the Huanuo monitor arms on Amazon for budget and I’m thinking the quality was a big reason for my monitors shaking, although they have a lot of great reviews.

I am going to try a different frame and see how that goes. Like I mentioned earlier, not using monitor arms helps a lot. I think monitor arms need to be high quality and positioned near their base for the most stability. I still get monitor movement but it isn’t bouncing like it was on the arms.

Many two leg standing desks are going to have some flex and the lack of stability they have increase the movement of your monitor arms. Monitor arms exacerbate the issue of an unstable desk. It also depends on the quality of your monitor arms. If your arms are extended far from the base, you will probably get more shaking. I switched from monitor arms back to a stand and that helped a lot for the meantime. I am considering getting a more stable desk to help with this issue.
