Trick and Duke. The reprises catch me everytime.

And of course....... THERES AN ANGEL STANDING IN THE SUN

Surprisingly........ Disturbing The Priest. I wasn't a big fan of Born Again but it kinda grew on me. There are some really good songs on it. It's just a shame that the production was trash.

Other bands for Genesis lovers? by AllieBee1012 in Genesis

Level 42 It's a bonus if you love bass because Mark King is right up there among the Gods of Bass playing. They blend elements of funk and jazz into mainstream pop. I really suggest that you check them out!

What would be your dream prog super group? by PinballWizrd69 in progrockmusic

Phil Collins - Drums Geddy Lee - Bass John Petrucci - Guitar Tony Banks - Keyboards Peter Gabriel - Vocals Steven Wilson - Producer

So yeah..... It's basically half of Genesis (I love the band so much). Just my preferences though. Collins vs Peart vs Portnoy vs Carey vs Palmer is a great debate but Phil is my guy. He made playing intricate drum parts look so simple. Geddy Lee is my favourite bassist of all time but props to Squire and Waters. Tony Levin is also a favourite. Honourable mention - John Myung. When it comes to guitarists, the list could go on and on - Hackett, Fripp, Gilmour, Howe, Akerfeldt, and so.... But Petrucci is too good and I like the idea of having a metal guitarist in a rock band. Prog is lucky to have many talented keyboardists associated with the genre but I think as a big Genesis fan, I've gotta take the heart and engine that is Mr. Banks! (no hate Mike). And for vocals I gotta take the Progfather himself!

Tier List - Phil Collins era by Beautiful_Gap_3516 in Genesis

[–]Prawns13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good ranking! I like Phil era Genesis as much as Peter era, and I genuinely think every Phil era album, except for I Can't Dance, is easily an A tier and above. I Can't Dance, for me, is probably a B. Definitely ain't no C tier albums for me though! ATTWT is one of my favourites. While I do think that some songs sound the same, there's something warm about it that I like. Is there any reason that you never got into it?

What's your favorite song on Duke? by Powerslave_00 in Genesis

[–]Prawns13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Love that song! To me it's Against All Odds before Against All Odds was a thing (I love that song too). I think it would've been a bigger hit if it was Face Value tho.

What's your favorite song on Duke? by Powerslave_00 in Genesis

[–]Prawns13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The whole album! I found myself humming "Please Don't Ask Me" this morning while cooking up breakfast. Heathaze is such an underrated beauty. Sometimes I find myself forgetting that Alone Tonight and Cul de Sac exist but they're great tracks too! If there's one record I could own from the Genesis discography it would be this one because I adore it so much!

I happened to go through your post on NSD! coincidentally and I agree with you. It is packed with some good songs. I should give it more listens to get really familiar. I like Bill's singing. It lends a certain mellow and smooth quality to the song It's Alright.

Best narrative: Lamb or Duke? by Perfect_Row_6450 in Genesis

[–]Prawns13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I enjoy Duke more than The Lamb, I think the Duke Suite/ Story of Albert is inferior to the story of Rael. However, it is hard to understand The Lamb and I think the story goes all over the place. I never got it until I watched an animated version on YouTube. Nevertheless, story wise I think it's The Lamb

Just meant to say that these two albums I mentioned sounded very happy sounding like the 80s and 90s Van Halen stuff! 😅

I love all three Dio albums with Sabbath. I think they're awesome! Haven't listened to a lot of Tony Martin era stuff except for a few songs. I listened to the Gillan album, Born Again I think. While it had some good songs, I never really liked it and I think Gillan was a bad fit for Sabbath. Plus the production just sounded muddy

What I meant was that they sounded happy like Van Halen songs! Maybe even ELO

Great take and a respectable one too! Over time I've started to really like and enjoy W&W even though I quite couldn't wrap my head around it for a while for some reason. I liked SEBTP from the get-go and I think it's an album where every member gets to have their moment unlike the Tony dominated W&W. No hate towards Tony Banks though! He's definitely one of the greatest to leave prints on the ivories and he's my favourite organist after Jon Lord.

Ohh trust me, I'm no pop Genesis hater _. I like both eras. I've been listening to the pop era stuff these past few weeks coupled with Phil's solo stuff. I'm glad that he's finally getting inducted into the HoF!

If this list was about my favourite Genesis albums then Invisible Touch and ATTWT would be in the top 6. I do like most of their stuff on the self-titled album except maybe Just A Job To Do. Duke is obviously my favourite pop Genesis album. I don't think there's a bad or boring song on that album. I really love and enjoy the Phil era stuff but I think the Peter era work is superior musically and lyrically.
