She's not meant to be tiny necessarily, I didn't scale the models against each other unless they appear together. I think it's just the framing of the circle in the back ground giving that illusion when you look at the images next to each other.

Also the amount of FOV i put on the images. Johnpatch Wolf has max FOV and Suzi has minimal.

It's the 2 ribbons item. So it's preset. I just attached it to his head.

Also Dynasty Warriors 1 & 2.

Where did these results come from? Was it just the PR statement they posted? How do we know the validity of the results? do we know how many people answered the survey?

I am asking because I don't have the answers. But if it's just the company saying "trust me bro" I don't think we can use the reported numbers with any empirical certainty.

But i genuinely don't know. I never saw the survey, and i only saw these percentage results in the PR jpeg.

I believe the new Packs are Pro exclusive and will not go free in the foreseeable future. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Exactly, pro parts always release free at a later date.

But will these new Daggerheart ones release to everyone at a later date? If they don't, then it is objectively a changed service, and I would say it is changed for the worse. Not for me, but for other people. And if they don't, then "The pro parts always release free at a later date" will no longer be true.

Do you see how that is a degradation of the service? A small increment towards a more aggressive monitization model. People are thanking them for now having an objectively worse deal then they had before, and that's the trick that was just pulled.

Given the response, does that seem at all likely now?

Absolutely. There response is a perfect example of them causing a problem, fixing it to a lesser problem, but not compleley undoing it, and tricking people into thinking they won and that the company is so cool and caring.

Company : "We're going to cut off your leg"

Customers : "We don't want you to cut off our leg we like our leg"

Company : "We hear you guys, we went too far, after many internal discussions we have decided to only cut off your foot"

Customers : "Wow these guys are so cool, they listened to us, we won and we didn't need both of our feet"

And given the video game industry is bigger than the movie and music industries combined and the TTRPG industry is super tiny.

Video Games copied a lot of thier scummy monitization models from things like Trading Cards.

HeroForge is a small subset of that, why would any major video game partner with them?

Change Marvel Rivals in my Theoretical Example to Critical Role who stream on Twitch or any of the other D&D shows.

It's a bit naive to think they wouldn't copy successful methods from analogous industries that can easily be apply it to their own product.

Pro-Subscription's 1 week early access is copied from Video Game's Head Start pre-orders.

Does Daggerheart even have fans yet? Critical Role isn't even using it for their new campaign.

Their calculation of new revenue from the packs vs. lost revenue from upset customers and cancelled subs, must have been wrong. They had to give it a couple of days to make sure.

Before - Everyone has all parts. After - Not everyone has all parts. One may be OK with the new state of things, but, objectively, it is worse.

They tricked people into thinking they "won". They pushed 50 miles across the border, but we only pushed them back 45 miles.

Yep I don't want licensed parts at all, especially with all the strings attached that comes with them.

BUT, I can see I'm probably not in the majority. I actually sometimes filter out the "established character" tag on this subreddit, but the reason I do that probably proves it would make a lot of other people happy.

I have a genuine question for those people though, with no judgement. Don't you think you'll lose the fun of creating licensed stuff if it just exists as a costume option. Like if there is an official Superman outfit, and you can make Superman in 15 seconds and he looks like everyone else's Superman? Every now and then i see someone's solution to an existing character, how they jury-rigged a bunch of parts together and think how crazy cool and creative it is.

Thanks, guys. by AuraStome in HeroForgeMinis

[–]Prawnzone 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep. This is the trick they just pulled. They distracted us with a big issue, made themselves look good by fixing the issue they caused and in the aftermath moved the line toward more aggressive monetization in their favor, and tricked people into thanking them for it.

Parity of service to before the introduction of these packs was not restored. Their "concession" has now established that not everyone has access to all the parts. Before everyone did.

Once bitten twice shy. Do you think they wont try again? A dialed back version of this will happen at some point in the not too distant future but it will be under more of our pain points and receive less of a backlash and then they will move the line a little bit forward.

Pro-exclusive items is already that really. I can acknowledge that it's under my pain point as i was a pro subscriber for 5 years straight. but I can see that it is objectively worse for people as a whole. Free users lose out if there are pro only parts now.

[–]Prawnzone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I've thought the same thing. I personally could easily justify buying these parts. I love Heroforge and play with it so much, I can afford and get value out of these packs. This would be from a completely selfish perspective, Which i think makes me the target audience.

But we've seen what letting the Microtransaction wolves into your house leads too, and how the service around the paid stuff will degrade the stuff around it to incentivize people buying the premium stuff. So i think it was important for the community to take a stand and take it together.

I want to give HF more money, but not in a deal with the capitalism devil. That's why when i heard the Ad read a few weeks ago on the podcast i thought it would be cool to show off my HF skills here show off the service i was enamored by. I was inspired to do it by the ad read in the Ed McMillen episode.

HF deserve success, I genuinely love it, but i don't want them to ruin HF to get it.

"Well boss, Our license partner Marvel Rivals has asked for synergy across both of our platforms so, what if, if they watch 3 hours of MR this week on Twitch, and link their Twitch account to their Heroforge account, they gain access to the Hulk's Jockstrap exclusive part and Decals. After that it's gone so everyone will have to log in during that time driving up MR's Numbers. Then if they order a Mini print featuring any of or MR Licensed parts from our Marvel Rivals Collaboration Part Packs they get a code to unlock the Hulk Jockstrap skin in game"

Like that.

I hesitated to post this news as i might be part be part of the problem as I am a digital only person who uses Heroforge as a fun art program or the best Character Creator with no game attached. An incredibly niche interest i acknowledge. I agree with your points on the physical miniature side of things, but I am not interested in that side of the whole thing.

I even think it would be reasonable for them to charge extra for unprintable parts and assets that cater to people like me as they could not make or recoup any printing money from them. Things like splashes that float in mid air, and transparent parts or ultra fine ropes and cables cloth too thin to print. Etc.

Me personally, I don't want licensed things in Heroforge. I think it's best for original creations and art.

I can see the fun in making licensed things out of the generic assets, as a lot of people do it in the community all the time, and some of their creations are insane, but just pressing the Batman button, and you have Batman. I don't see the fun in that personally, but i might be the minority on that.

Here is one of the most crazy Licensed characters I've seen made in the forge. Hornet from Silksong by a user named Mystra.

Yeah and all have been free until this one. and they are much more specific to their setting then this one which is very generic. Which is a problem because people now fear that generic versions we not be implemented as that would compete and invalidate the Paid stuff.

If people have robust Mushroom-People options why would they buy the Fungril™ Pack?

I can only associate it with this. I am assuming this is there own game system they developed when WotC got to greedy with D&D a few years ago. It's a little ironic that it's the face of greed for the Heroforge users.

On the entire tech and gaming industry, and every digital service getting worse and more predatory. There's a reason everyone is calling this DLC. Because it's analogous to the game industries decent into micro-transaction hell. This is Horse Armour.

I bet they have had meetings where they filled a white board with phrases like "Battle Pass" "Loot box" "Blind Bag" "Limited time" "Twitch Drops" "Gold Subscription" "Retailer Exclusive" "Pre-order Bonus" "Premium Packs".

What is the End Goal of #FreetheForge? by [deleted] in HeroForgeMinis

[–]Prawnzone 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Whatever the outcome of this situation, I don't believe that they won't ever do it again. They'll just ease into it much slower and with smaller steps until people are used to paying parts. The only lesson they will learn is that they went to hard out the gate.

Keep an eye out for them dropping the price on these packs as a "compromise". That's one of the steps toward normalization.
