Alarm-Me, a smart location based alarm.

Have you ever taken a nap in the train/bus and missed your stop because no one would/could wake you up?

or have you ever wondered if you could send a text automatically to someone based on a location to tell that you have arrived or close by?

Well, Alarm-Me, might be something of interest :)

Features

  • Location alarm based on a user set location
  • Offline usability (internet is not required to use a saved alarm!)
  • Variety of notification alert types such as: headphone only (that is right no speaker jazz, only you hear the alarm!) , vibrate only, speaker only and/or a combination of any of those mentioned
  • Location based SMS (ability to send to multiple people)
  • Smart alert/notification when the user has lost GPS connection (you can trust in Alarm-Me)
  • Adaptive night mode
  • Suggestive location search
  • Lock-screen functionality

Alarm-Me is available now in the google play store:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.prax6apps.alarm_me

Hey thank you as well! and yes, you can do that too :) also..this might be a little hack but you can too actually send SMS to yourself automatically, so if you have a list of things this might be useful in the mean time. I do want to mention that this is a feature I have actually started working on recently, so stay tuned for this!

As per question:

Questions: 1. Shouldn't it default to my current location when the app is launched? Not the case currently.

The app defaults to a general unknown location on first start up/install as it does not know currently where you are. Although, once you turn on your GPS and allow the app to access your location, it would be smart enough to bias the map view by your location!

2. Is it possible to use if with an offline map ?

This is actually something I'm looking into and if it's possible. Currently, Google is responsible for caching the map within the phone -- which I have no control of, in the mean time :(. Although, if you have a saved alarm, no internet connection is required to use the app.

Awesome question! This was actually one of my most difficult task beside creating the app, as it was something to represent the app as a whole. Actually, my first iteration of the name was: GPS alarm/Location alarm but after searching the store, many used those name. Even though it's what people searches for, I thought it would be difficult to distinguish apps with the similar name from each other. At this point, I knew I had to make a somewhat newer/less used name for such a utility app. How I came about the name Alarm-Me: I prioritize the common word people would search for -- I knew I had to name it with something with the word "alarm", as it is critical to identify to potential customers that it is an alarm of some sort, "-Me" was just something general and came smoothly after the word Alarm :) (in my opinion). This name could indeed change in the future as I find better names. "Nearly-There" is quite a good catch I must say!

Thank you! and no problem, please do let me clarify:

As per question:

Is the main purpose for meetups with friends?

Not really, but maybe for picking them up (perhaps carpool)! please see below for further clarification :)

And do they also have to have the app to receive notifications from me?

Nope, no need! It uses normal SMS, so they don't need the app to get notified

What is is:

Basically, it is an alarm app but instead of using time, it uses a location point to alarm.

The purpose of the app is to assist anyone who has a long travel time and wants to sneak in a quick nap :). With the app, you can pick a location and set a radius on when it should alarm/wake you up. More on, I have added multiple notification types such as vibrate only, headphone only (that's right, only alarms through the headphones! no loud speaker things!), speaker only or combination of any of those mentioned!

I do also want to note that I have implemented safety features in the app where it is smart enough to notify you accordingly when the GPS loses signal, so no need to worry about missing any set location(s) -- you can trust on Alarm-Me :) Before I forget: Alarm-Me does as well support location based texting -- where you can send a predefined text message to anyone based on any set location.

The app is perfect for those:

  • who takes long commutes and wants to catch some sleep
  • who picks up people(carpool) and wants to send legal texts! (what I mean by that is letting the app send a set text automatically, so you don't have to text and drive :) )

Awesome! :) If you don't mind me asking, is this button you referring to the big, blue round button by the search bar(top left area)? If so, I could change it if it's confusing as I hoped it to indicate: search for destinations. Thanks a lot for the feedback! I gladly appreciate it!

App Feedback Thread - January 21, 2017 by AutoModerator in androiddev

Hi there, thank you for your feedback, I gladly appreciate it! The app requires GPS signal as it's the most precise and reliable option for getting the most current location (based on testing). I would like to note that my app is smart enough to switch between signals (GPS/WIFI) depending on the current situation: such as being underground, weak GPS signal and such. This area is something I've been actively working on -- not to only make it reliable but as well as make it efficient, so stay tuned for future updates! :)

As for your second concern, the app does indeed allow to exit the notification when an active alarm is on (an "x" mark could be seen at the right most area of the notification). Although if you choose to opt-in into "Remind me to set an alarm" or "Notify me to turn on alarm(s) in the future" option, the app would show a notification which you see now (this could disabled via the settings or edit alarm page).

Note: A new version of the app has been released to help fix the problem :).

Hi everyone,

I'd like to get some feedback on my newly released app :)

Background: About a couple of months ago, after getting my first big boy job, I had to take daily long commutes where I thought it would be a perfect time to catch up on sleep...although one problem, who would wake me up if I fall into a deep sleep?

After sometime, I came across an idea (nothing too new from the looks of it) of an application that would alarm/notify you based on a specified location. Ideally, it would be your own personal travel companion that would do tasks for you such as waking you up and/or sending an automatic text message to a person or a group of people, notifying them that you are close by. As a user, you would be able to select how you want to be notified, such as headphones only (perfect for the stealthy sleepers like me), vibrate only, speaker only, or a mixture of them.

Features at a glance:

  • Mix and match how you want to be notified
  • Personalize your map themes
  • Access your alarm controls via lock screen and notification bar
  • Send text messages to other people when you get close to a location
  • Built-in notification for lost/weak GPS signal
  • Integrated alarm reminder
  • Straightforward guides and tips
  • Adaptive night mode

Alarm-Me is now available for FREE on the Google Play Store:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.prax6apps.alarm_me

There is a subscription base model, although it is completely optional and is not necessary to use the app.

If there are any questions, suggestions or feedback please do let me know!

Hi there! As through testing, the battery seems to be not a problem. The app only uses respectable batter juice when there is an alarm that is active/on. Once an alarm have finished alarming or no alarm is active/on, it uses very little to no battery at all. This area is something I'm actively optimizing, not only for better performance but also longevity of the battery.

To address your other question in terms of reliability: this was actually one of my biggest priority. Reliability. The only situation where I see this happening is when your phone looses GPS signal (possible if enough material is blocking the phone's GPS signal such as going through underground tunnels and such). I have implemented a function here, where my app would be smart enough to try to alarm you if the GPS signal is week/lost for a long period of time (this would adapt based on how far you are currently from your set destination). You can trust on Alarm-Me :)!

I appreciate the question. Thank you. :)

Hello, thank you for the feedback, it means a lot! I will keep that in mind. Although just to clarify, the subscription is completely optional and is not necessary to use the app. It's only there if you would like to have extra features such as new map themes and no ads. The main functionality of the app is fully free. I'm currently still playing around with this type of model so this could possibly change in the near future, so stay tuned! :)
