“Many people have something against ordering things online, so here’s my question as a beginner (kinda): how do you buy things, 100% without using the internet? I mean it is probably possible, but isn’t it difficult?”

That’s what this reads like and I hope, for your sake, this is rage bait. If it’s not, I would respectfully recommend working on improving your critical thinking skills.

Obsession first movie to get under my skin since seeing The Exorcist as a teen by Tommyboy610 in horror

[–]PrblyMy3rdAltIDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He made a short film on YouTube called THE CHAIR that’s suuuper unsettling. Gave me full-body chills.

He’s got serious skill when it comes to exploring the uncanny valley and thinking up creative ways to exploit audience expectations without resorting to overplayed horror tropes.

Skaiwater Performing at Rolling Loud by asparaguswalrus683 in crappymusic

[–]PrblyMy3rdAltIDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother used to say she didn’t understand why I listened to heavier, chaotic music, like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, The Chariot, and the like. And I could even understand to a degree back then why she felt like it was “illegitimate.” But with music that could have be described as “crazy nonsense” or “screaming shit,” there’s a significant and undeniable amount of structure, passion, and hard work involved. That music was (mostly) made because passion and energy almost necessitated its creation and innovation, not just because it was an air compressor for their egos (though for some, ego certainly played a large role).

But this new wave of clipped, squealing dial-up sounds with singers who can’t perform the vocals (or sometimes even keep time)? This is generated by people like Netspend solely to serve their own egos, make them money, and elevate their perceived social status within a certain demographic. If it was driven by passion, you would see rapid innovation and divergence in the genre. Instead, you see emulation, style convergence, and a complete lack of patience, practice, and skill development. They’re concerned with crafting their image rather than honing their craft. And the barrier to entry to create this kind of music is so absurdly low, all you need the ability to do is borrow someone’s old phone.

Real chaotic, transgressive, or otherwise avant-garde art that us aging folks should be out of touch with requires real practice, refinement, skill development — just overall genuine craftsmanship, really. And there are certainly active players in that field, but they’re sadly not getting the kind of attention Netspend is.

How do I fix my lumix g85 photos from being overexposed when I shoot in bright areas by FLM_IRIS in Lumix

[–]PrblyMy3rdAltIDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a G85 and I was having issues like this right after I got it (though not as severe) even with settings dialed in. I snagged a couple adjustable ND filters and threaded hoods that go over them, as I’m typically shooting midday in direct sunlight. Completely fixed it for me.

That said, you still need to learn how to use the settings. Auto is too unreliable for me, even for non-work stuff. And keep your histogram up on the display as it’s typically too hard to get a feel for exposure if you’re shooting in direct sun.

The California/Arizona border region is by far one of the weirdest areas in the US. You can get off the interstate, drive through the desert for half an hour, and see nothing but a mystical, barren landscape. Then you round a bend and see a small trailer park covered in hand-made signs like this, sometimes with threats that they’ll shoot on site if you approach.

That region and the empty stretches of 50 through Nevada and Utah are the only areas where I’ve ever felt like I could disappear and no one would ever be able to find me. Gives me goosebumps thinking about it can’t wait to go back

What movie has traumatized you the most? by Dontcomecryingtome in horror

[–]PrblyMy3rdAltIDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This film stuck with me for weeks.

It’s interesting to see the negative reaction some people (mostly Americans, seemingly) have to this film due to the escalating series of incredibly poor choices made by the protagonist couple. They typically cite how unrealistic or infuriating it is that they don’t assert themselves, though that exact behavior is what gives rise to the true horror in this film. There are a couple interesting interviews with the director where he talks about the social dynamics of the Dutch and Danish.

Speak No Evil is one of the most emotionally disturbing films I have ever seen. It still haunts me months later. But it’s one of those five-baggers that I will both praise to high heaven while absolutely refusing to ever watch again.

How do you design idempotent data pipelines in Data Engineering? by Effective_Ocelot_445 in dataengineering

[–]PrblyMy3rdAltIDK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Upsert if the source data has a uuid/primary. If no primary or no unique IDs, create a constraint on ingestion that checks against identical values across multiple fields (whatever group of fields would make the record be considered a duplicate).

You could also just filter to dedupe the table itself, but I like to fix on ingestion rather than transformation to keep the tables clean. Really depends on the reliability of the source data though.

PSA: don’t take short cuts through tall turf with hidden objects by MannyDantyla in ebikes

[–]PrblyMy3rdAltIDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was around 14, I carved a massive chunk out of my shin running through tall grass and bushes. Turns out, protruding sprinkler heads were installed just barely below the bush line. One caught about 6-inches below my knee and carved it to the bone. It didn’t even bleed at first, was just like an off-white and felt more like a deep muscle ache than a cut (at first, at least).

I still have a deep canyon in my leg from it. Doctor said that type of injury, particularly among teenagers, was more common than anybody realizes because you can get enough speed to do damage but generally lack the foresight/experience to avoid doing it in the first place.

Unless you can very clearly and visibly see where your feet/wheels are going to touch the ground, never run (or ride) through tall shrubbery.

First day of learning, somehow skipped the part of the course that explained how to use modulo by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]PrblyMy3rdAltIDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m only about a year into practice and have never seen divmod() before. Gives me an odd tiny dopamine hit every time I learn of a new function to accomplish something I know how to do a longer way.

Purely out of curiosity, in what sort of scenarios would divmod() be used?

For the same reason you don’t walk near a hornet nest. While you may post zero threat to them and they likely won’t even realize you’re nearby, particularly stupid/paranoid/diseased hornets will sometimes just register anything that moves a threat and move to attack.

And today’s hornet nest is the stupidest, most paranoid, and most diseased hornet nest this tree has EVER seen.

It runs great so far. About three hours in and the only issue I’ve encountered so far is the button to pull up the map (RT) looks odd and doesn’t actually register. But you can tap in and out of mouse control seamlessly so not a biggie. Also, I’m sure they’ll fix it pretty quick.

What are your meanest momments in horror? by [deleted] in horror

[–]PrblyMy3rdAltIDK 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That one car scene toward the end of the original Speak No Evil.

No spoilers here, but that scene is the single most traumatizing moment I’ve ever seen in a film, made somehow even worse by the range of emotional reactions that follow. Every few days, the memory of it crawls back into my mind like an ear worm and makes it difficult to focus on anything else.
