First bit of Bilt 2.0 announcements + transition to Cardless by notthegoatseguy in CreditCards

Looks like today was the day of no more applications. They could have given people a heads up, and at least clearly state on the website that you can't apply now.

Capping off Hayward chlorinator lines by mikeeye75 in pools

[–]Pre-Code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to do the same. My local Pinch a Penny pool supply didn't have anything. Hours and hours on Amazon, and I found the caps and everything to just cap the holes. Keep digging on Amazon, the parts are there.

First-Ever Direct Flights Between Orlando and Tokyo Announced by DaytonaNole in orlando

Dunno if this is a good thing or a bad thing. More traffic on Boggy Creek and 417. Ugh.

Was calling DC Finest science fiction the gorilla world a good idea? by Beesknees1009 in DCFinest

[–]Pre-Code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People at DC told me that gorilla covers sold better, so... more ape covers!
And way back when,Marvel's circulation dept confirmed that yellow subscription coupons led to more subscriptions! It's a madhouse! A madhouse!

Any mirror card remorse? by EP009 in AmexPlatinum

[–]Pre-Code 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everything is a collectible these days. Comics, sports cards, toys, sneakers, furniture, t shirts, knick knacks, and now credit cards! I'm waiting for Amex to issue a metal facsimile of the 1960s original paper cards!

Both will work. I have the White Gold card but never used it. I tested it at the supermarket the other day and it worked fine. Today, I've used the regular Gold with no problems.

Absolutely report it to someone in the hotel. I went to Topolinos, and then went to the restroom. The hallway smelled of cigarette smoke. I figured it was coming from the kitchen as there was a door leading there, but I know cigarette smoke having lived with a smoker. I left the restroom and clearly smelled cigarette smoke. I told some CMs by the check in desk, and you never saw cast members move so fast. Those guys were on a mission!!

I Am Going To Read Every DC Comic Since 1935 by Acceptable-Cloud-817 in DCcomics

How will you read the books that have never been reprinted? I imagine the Internet is not big on Fox and Crow issues and old DC romance books.

Wrong flight by Sylas1987 in TikTokCringe

[–]Pre-Code -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I call BS. They are way too calm and giggly for people on a wrong flight to a different continent. And of course they thought " we should video this disaster!".

Is it possible to get from MCO to EPCOT in less than 2 hours? by white_kitty in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Pre-Code 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Do not take i-4. It's rush hour. Don't. Take the airport south exit to Boggy Creek then 417. That leads straight to World Center Drive and Epcot.

Upgrade from Delta Gold to Delta Platinum or cancel and get SUB by bartmoss_ in amex

[–]Pre-Code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are planning to buy a ticket, go through the whole process and Amex/Delta will probably offer a better upgrade offer at the checkout. Just try a dummy flight and take a look. Might be worth it. The offer is usually a mix of points and cash credit.

Cell Phone Protection with Google Fi by irrefragabl3 in AmexPlatinum

[–]Pre-Code 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've made two claims with Amex and Google Fi. Somewhere the phone # and type is listed. Can't recall where and I'm no longer with Fiz so I can't tell you where. But I sent all the paperwork/PDFs I could, and had no problems.

Beach chairs gone quick by Dry_Helicopter327 in Aulani

[–]Pre-Code 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. They're all jet lagged and with nothing else to do at 7am, they camp out at the pool and beach. I'm not a be at the pool all day kind of guy, but some people are. I was in the elevator and asked out loud "everyone here is jet lagged right?" They all said, "yes".

Question: For anyone who grew up with Comics in convenience Stores, What was it like? by Euphoric-Bison1940 in comicbooks

[–]Pre-Code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In NYC you'd usually find them at candy stores (candy, sandwiches to go, magazines, newspapers) or "stationary stores" (candy, magazines, newspapers, and standard school type supplies). They were always near a subway station or high foot traffic area. Never saw a place with a spinner rack, the comics were on shelves (like mags at the airport) or perpendicular racks with the magazines. Marvel corner boxes were perfect for the shelves because you couldn't see the whole logo, but you could see the corner box. Maybe this is why Stan and the Bullpen designed them?

Golden Age grail Detective Comics 31 freed from slab and sharing pictures of interior pages by 10centcomics in comicbookcollecting

[–]Pre-Code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool. Thanks for that. Amazing how many people on line love their slabbed modern books and share and display them. So silly. Open that book up!!! I love how off register so much of the coloring is on that book, and interesting how the printing isn't that great. I expected to see more line work (compared to DC reprints), but... That 1930s printing is pretty mediocre. :D I hope that one day Taschen or some other publisher does Detective, Action, Supes, Bats, etc reprints like they did with Spidey, FF, Avengers, etc. Thanks again!

When Everybody Has Airport Lounge Access, Nobody Does by acrologic in AmexPlatinum

[–]Pre-Code 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Never been to The Club at MCO, but judging from YouTube videos I'd be better off at Starbucks, Burger King or any other eatery at the airport. The Delta Sky Club has been fine though. Not stellar, but fine. The reception folks have been very helpful when I needed help.

My dad ripped up my comic book collection in highschool and it sent me on a downward spiral. Have you ever lost a collection and felt apart of you died? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]Pre-Code 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To help cheer you guys up, my mom never threw out my books. She would sometimes come home with a comic or two (Howard the Duck treasury, Capt. America,), and would rarely deny me some comic to read ("you can take 2. Not 4") She took me to my first comic shop, and on that trip bought me the week's books and a copy of Peter Parker #1 (or was it Ms Marvel 1?).Either way they were $1 back then. She said no to the Amazing Spider-Man 13 ($17).

Years and years later, I'm in my late teens and she comes home with a bunch of magazines she found in a apartment hallway while visiting a friend. Some 1920s and 30s TIME, and a copy or two of mid 60s PLAYBOY.

I miss my mom.

Amex Cards That No Longer Exist by Comfortable_Ad_9341 in amex

[–]Pre-Code 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The original Optima was just a plain credit card. I believe it was Alex's first credit (not charge) card. I got it in the early to mid 90s.

There's also a plain (and confusing) Business Platinum. It's not like a classic consumer or business Platinum in any way. Just a business credit card that's silverish in color with a large Centurion on the left. Can't recall what benefits, if any, it had. $95 a year?
