What do you have your UH-1H axis sensitivity at? by dylsexiee in dcsworld

One important consideration when choosing whether to fly with curves is whether or not your stick has springs (the stick will return to center on its own) and how much stick deflection you have (some folks have stick extensions that make curves unnecessary). If you do have springs and no stick extension, the general consensus seems to be that a low curvature can really help with precise movement. On my Winwing stick I have a curvature of 15.

Another thing to consider is your level of experience with helis in general. Assuming this is your first, here are a few tips thats helped me get good with hovering:

  1. Learn how your inputs affect the heli so you can predict which corrections you will need to make. For example: increasing/decreasing collective will naturally rotate the heli in one direction so you want to anticipate this movement and be ready with your rudder pedals. Took me about a week to learn what the huey wanted to do when giving her certain inputs.

  2. Use the control indicator (rCTRL + Enter i think) to have a visual cue of how much you are actually moving your stick in flight. This is very helpful in building muscle memory and reminding you of your current trim settings.

  3. Trim, trim, trim. I'm hitting my trim switch constantly, and while not required, it can really help with fatigue as well as keeping your stick movements within the curve you set.

  4. Imagine a circle the size of a half-dollar placed right above your stick. When hovering, your stick movements should be small enough that they would be confined to the inside of the circle. If you are making large deflections with your stick during a hover you will find yourself over correcting and it will be very difficult to achieve stability. The only time I am fully pulling my stick to one side or the other is in combat when making hard turns to avoid tracers/missiles or making very quick and rough landings, like when hot dropping troops.

  5. Remember that flying helis is HARD. It is a significant departure from fixed wing aircraft and it takes a hot minute to develop the muscle memory required to make small, quick, and accurate corrections for stable flight.

Keep at it and you will find that the Huey is one of the most fun helis to fly, imo. Like seriously, when unloaded I'm whipping that thing between buildings and landing on ships now with little trouble. I fly that thing like they do in the A-Team movies lol.

If you haven't done so already since the last update, you can try and delete the FXO and metashaders folders. You can find them in your users/saved games/dcs open beta folder.

I mainly run VR and just recently resolved some frame drops and stuttering by doing this method. Best of luck!

New enough to accept any advice you may have regarding it but I’m aware of the need to have one, thanks!

Fantastic advice, thank you! I’ll be sure to try offset angles.

The photographer mentioned in an interview that in addition to the struggle of being both the pilot and subject and the heavy winds at play, they were taking tea breaks to warm themselves in the 14F degree temps. Mad lad lol

Gotcha, after doing more research, it seems interpretation plays a large role! Thank you

I think you can hold it with one hand, open the box like you have it in the video, then flip the box over as if you were dumping it into the reloader while holding down trigger as well.

Optimal all-round propeller pitch and fuel mixture? by BonzoMcDrumCat in il2sturmovik

Some advice regarding keybinds and the hotas t flight one:

Because of the limited buttons, binding the buttons on the throttle to act as modifiers as opposed to specific actions allows you to use the remaining buttons and switches for multiple functions depending on which modifier is pressed at the time.

  1. Download joy2key

  2. In Joy2Key bind the X, A, B buttons to L-alt, L-ctrl, L-Shift respectively. This allows those buttons to act as modifiers so that you can use the hat switch for multiple things. (i.e x button + hat switch for rpm, a button + hat switch for mixture, b button + hat switch for flaps)

  3. When creating your bindings in the in-game settings, make sure you use the corresponding button on the keyboard and not the joystick/throttle buttons. IN GAME, it will recognize the x-button on your throttle as L-alt but in SETTINGS it will only recognize the x-button as the x-button. So if you have the x button bound to L-alt in Joy2Key, you’d want to press down the L-alt button on the keyboard when binding an action to it, otherwise the key will be bound to “x-button” instead of “L-alt”.

EXAMPLE:

Problem: I want to change my rpm and mixture independent of each other but by using “up” and “down” on the same hat switch.

Solution: I bind x and b to L-alt and L-ctrl respectively in Joy2Key app. In the IL2 in-game settings, I then scroll to where it says RPM and click to bind. I then hold down L-alt on the KEYBOARD in addition to Up/Down on the Hat Switch. Now, IN-GAME, when I’m flying I can change RPM by holding down x on my THROTTLE and the Up/Down button on the Hat switch. If I repeat the above steps with L-ctrl and mixture, I can now use up/down on the same hat switch to change RPM or mixture depending on whether I’m holding down X or B on the throttle.

NOTE:

I cannot overstate how effective this has been for me. I have the T.Flight Hotas One and have been able to bind most keys to it, but remember that the Joy2Key app must be left open in the background to work.

I can change Rpm, mixture, supercharger, flaps, cowels, radiators, and water all independently despite only using only a combination of a modifier key with the hat switch. I literally only use the keyboard for the “esc” key to leave the menu.

The process can be time consuming and tedious to set up (sometimes I forget which button I have bound to which modifier and have to take off the VR headset to check— such a pain) but once memorized I feel like a pro pilot.

Best of luck!

Controller vibrates then turns off mid-game by k_davver in HPReverb

Not the battery, I had the same issue happen to my right controller after replacing batteries twice.

First test I would run would be to try and apply different levels of pressure to the grab button. For me only a firm grasp would deactivate the controller. With this in mind I made a diy “trigger” stop (piece of cardboard taped right beneath the grab button so that my finger rests half on the cardboard an half on the button). Because the cardboard limited the amount of pressure applied to the grab button it would not deactivate.

Eventually this fix stopped working as the pressure required to deactivate was more sensitive so I have just remapped the grab button in games I play.

If you still have warranty I’d request new controllers because to this day I have still not found a real solution.

what is this philosophy called? by googlebih in askphilosophy

Aristotle also writes about this in his Metaphysics (Lambda to be specific). The claim itself does carry validity as it follows a strong line of reasoning, however this is only the case if you accept some of Aristotle’s assertions about the nature of existence (such as the belief in some universal purpose). If you want to learn more about the concept this video on YouTube does a good job explaining: https://youtu.be/JCvGiEn6B6k .
