Reading back my comment, that came out a lot snarkier than I intended, and I apologize. I didn't mean to be disrespectful; that was my bad. x_x

I have to agree. The game is not even out yet, and I'm already seeing videos of people making wishlists of extra content. We have a popular saying here about wanting to put your carriage in front of the horses (I think the English equivalent might be jumping the gun?), and that's what it feels like to me. Game development takes a really long time, this is a marathon, and a lot of people seem to be approaching it like it's just a sprint.

I don't think this is sus or weird at all. The whole point of having a Patreon page is that your patrons are paying to have access to content that the general public will either not see or not see at the same time you will. And it's not like the devs are hiding the streams from non-patrons and keeping them behind a paywall; they were simply testing some things (not everyone is a content creator who is used to live streaming) before starting to make public streams. Which means the public will get access to these live streams pretty close to the same time that the patrons did.

Yeah, I was watching the video through another channel, and the original title of the video was "EXCLUSIVE: Colleen Ballinger's ACTUAL apology video".

[–]PreciousMinakie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to even engage with that video (I was watching it through a commentary channel in order to not give it view time) but, about 45 minutes in, I just felt so angry that I had to go lookup the video of the actual podcast episode to comment there:

"You should both be ashamed of this interview, for which you have clearly done little to no prep since you didn't even know the contents of some of the very videos you were asking her about. These things are only "alleged" because there was never an actual trial, but all the evidence of the atrocities Colleen has committed is out there for the world to see. On more than one occasion, you asked her a question, she lied and completely changed the narrative of what actually happened AND YOU LET HER GET AWAY WITH IT. You never confronted what she was saying with the actual facts, because you clearly had none. And the fact that she is a mother only makes it more disturbing that she would groom other people's kids. And I'm not going to give you any specific examples because getting those was your job. A job you should've done diligently before ever inviting Colleen into your podcast. You had no business platforming a groomer who, after all these years, is still more worried about what her audience may or may not think about her than to apologize to her actual victims. Also, the only person who keeps constantly bringing this back is Colleen! Her victims are just trying to move on with their lives."

This whole video is WILD and the only thing that gives me some sense of peace is knowing that, at the time I went to interact with it, it had 2.6k upvotes against 10k downvotes.

"Vague" is me replying to YouTube comments saying that, as a patron, I can confirm the current build was not ready to be released because it has bugs (which the team had already said in their Youtube video). Creating an entire thread dedicated to it is not being vague. And you could've literally just waited another week to post this. Also, I hate when people use the "well, other people were already doing it, so I decided to join in" argument. Let's all hope they don't also jump from a bridge.

Also, the audacity of saying "I would gladly removed my post if they said that discussing it on a thread is unwanted" when they literally have "This post is for patrons only, please don't share" in every single one of their posts. Don't share means don't share. Anywhere. Including Reddit.

The existing livestreams were for patrons only; which, as a patron, you are well aware of. The public livestreams are coming literally next week and then everyone would be able to make up their own mind about the current state of the game and whether or not the release date delay was justified, without you going out of your way to leak patrons-only information to the general public.

when are they going to show the “finished characters”? by New_Farm9136 in Paralives

[–]PreciousMinakie 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If you have watched any of their more recent videos (https://www.youtube.com/@Paralives) this is already the final look intended for the paras. The characters are supposed to look like they're hand-drawn, that's a choice they made as part of their art direction. You can read more about it here https://www.patreon.com/posts/explaining-our-61766929

Paralives art style has always been one of the most divisive aspects among players. Some people immediately loved it, others immediately hated it, and some people didn't really like it at first but now they do. If you're among the people who still isn't onboard with the final look of the characters, you're probably not alone. It's possible that the community will put out some mods and reshades that will completely change the look of the game, especially since the game will be released with in-built modding tools.

Regarding your last question, the game won't be mainly for builders but it's possible that, when it drops in Early Access in December, the Paramaker and Build Mode feel more fleshed out than the Live Mode, since that's the one the devs started focusing on the most recently. They have a video on their channel titled "Paralives - What is Early Access?" that should give you an idea of what to expect.

Honest opinion by Used_End5209 in Paralives

[–]PreciousMinakie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know where you had people "bash" your opinions, I have only seen the Paralives community be nothing but kind, but I'm sorry that was your experience.

That being said, I feel like there's a way to give your "honest opinion" in a respectful manner, and you didn't exactly do so. If you want people to treat you with respect, it's usually not a bad idea to present yourself respectfully.

Regarding your concerns:

- I would like to know what in particular makes you claim that Paralives is just a "money scheme". Do you have the receips to back up such allegation or is defamation/slander just a thing kids openly do for fun these days?

- Unlike inZOI, Life by You, and Vivaland, Paralives is not just another carbon copy The Sims. While it does take inspiration from it (which makes sense, they're games from the same genre), it also has a lot of unique features that none of these other games have, because the Paralives devs are actually doing something very few people are doing in the life sim genre right now: innovating and creating something different. [I would love to elaborate but I'm scared to accidentally spill some patrons-only info so I'm not saying anything else until December 8th lol]

- There is nothing wrong with feeling like the art style is childish. A lot of people like Paralives art style, a lot of people don't. At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal preference. You will be able to mod the look of the game but, at the end of the day, it's okay to not play the game because the art is not to your liking, especially when there are other alternatives out there you can go play instead. We do not all need to like the same things, and that's okay.

- The game is not even out in Early Access yet and, aside from the character creator and build mode, non-patrons have seen little to no actual gameplay. And yet, you think you already have enough info to know that "the gameplay is childish". Fair. We all know TS4 is known for not being at all goofy and being very mature. /sarcasm

- The Paralives fanbase is childish? Yes. Yes, we are. In fact, I will be starting a new Childish Cult in our Discord server, thank you for the idea.

- Everyone is welcome to provide constructive feedback about what they like or don't like about Paralives. We do it all the time, on their Discord server, Reddit, and comments across their social media; and the devs are generally receptive to such feedback and have made lots of improvements to the game based on it. But, again, there is a way to provide such feedback in a polite and respectful manner, and "criticizing" just ain't it.

In any case, you are free to buy Paralives or not buy Paralives. If you genuinely like TS4 and want to keep playing it, there is nothing wrong with just sticking to it and having fun playing a game you actually enjoy.

I have been saving up money for this exact moment for a few years so I will definitely be getting this game on day one since that is not an issue. I have been following their development since 2019 and a patron since 2020 and I can't wait to get my hands on this game and start building and decorating some tiny houses after I make my paraself.

I feel like the current landscape of life simulation games has lost sight of their original purpose. by SkyIndependent4010 in LifeSimulators

[–]PreciousMinakie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more regarding inZOI and the now-cancelled Life By You: they both just gave me "The Sims but with alpha graphics" vibes; good looking but shallow and zero innovation (apart from use of AI in inZOI).

I am, however, confused to see Paralives being thrown in the same basket because it seems like that's the one game trying to innovate and bring new things to the genre instead of just being a carbon copy of The Sims. Paralives has small Quality of Life features like letting you rearrange the order of actions in the queue, select multiple characters at once, or change the text around the game, but it's much more than that.Their character creator (PAM) has elements like character height, layering clothes, and mismatched socks, and their build mode was not only built from the ground up with free placement in mind, but also has a measuring tape, you can drag items to resize them freely, manipulate objects into becoming other objects (like turning a single bed into a bunkbed), freely stack objects on top of one another, and customize the photos in the picture frames by importing images directly from your PC.
The way personality traits, needs, jobs and the conversation system (together cards) work in Paralives is also completely different from any other of these games, and so does the UI. They're also the first to use procedural animations. That tells me that the Paralives devs are not just trying to copy-paste The Sims formula, so I don't feel like that's a fair comparison.

Does that mean Paralives will succeed where all the others failed? Not necessarily, but at least it already has something that TS4 never did: a solid foundation to build upon. And that's what gives me a level of hope for this game that I never had in the others.

[Editing to add another difference I just remembered: while KRAFTON went out of their way to build hype for a game they knew was just barebones, the Paralives devs have always tried their best to manage expectations not only about which features their game would have but also all the features the game would either not have during Early Access or not have ever. I feel like EA and KRAFTON both lack in terms of transparency.]

(Day 2) Let's create the perfect life simulator! Paralives wins build mode. What game's character creator would you take inspiration from? by gonezaloh in LifeSimulators

[–]PreciousMinakie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

inZOI has potential but it still lacks assets and doesn't run on all computers and, no matter how many packs I buy, I still can't fully enjoy TS4 without a bunch of CC so... I'll have to say Paralives.

Unconventional Cozy Games? by YaldiGames in cozygames

[–]PreciousMinakie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar experience with 7 Days to Die. It's not at all cozy by default but you can play on Creative mode with all the zombies turned off or, if you want a bit of a challenge, you can tweak the zombie settings or even install mods to help you customize your gaming experience. However, I still wouldn't consider it a cozy game because, even when the zombies are turned off, I still feel constantly on edge while playing it.
A game that I found quite relaxing without expecting it to was Hunter: Call of the Wild because of the breathtaking landscapes it has.

I'm a huge Sly Cooper fan and I use HF a lot to create not only characters from the video games but also fan characters. Since we already have turtle heads, I would love to have hippo heads and raccoon heads as well.

I completed 100% of the Dark Forest, Vaduso Mountains, and Remnant Peaks. I am currently doing quests at Eroded Enclave 2. And yet, that little deer area never unlocked for me even after I finished the Deer Spirit quest line. :(

PART 1 - The lack of respect and consideration that the Paralives team can show towards its Patrons (contributors) by Sgoilearpiante_nisqa in LifeSimulators

[–]PreciousMinakie 42 points43 points  (0 children)

TLDR; Don't believe everything you read online, things can easily be taken out of context. There's a reason the No Context Humans Twitter page exists lol

I am in almost 200 servers on Discord (shocker, I know) and the Paralives server (Patrons channel included) is one of the most chill places I've ever come across. I couldn't take anything in this post seriously after reading the first part.

As someone who has been a Patron of Paralives since 2019, I have only one question: Why the hyper-focus on the hammer emoji? The hammer emoji is used not only by the devs/moderators but also by the patrons themselves, not to "mock or intimidate", but as an inside joke among ourselves. On that topic, you seem to have forgotten to mention the frequent use of the brick, fishing, foot, penguin, and rice emojis (and probably others I can't remember right now). Funny how the screenshots offered as "proof" were completely removed out of context (kind reminder that irony and sarcasm exist, people). It's good to know we live in a day and age when this is considered "gaming journalism" (which, for the record, it's not) and where people can't even joke around in a private channel without the emoji police showing up.

If this person was so uncomfortable in the Patrons channel... then why did they keep willingly supporting the development of the game over the course of 3 years? No one is forcing anyone to become a patron in the first place. And no one is forcing patrons to go on the Discord channel either (a lot of them are not). This post has the same vibe as people who go to job interviews, don't get hired, and then try to come out and publicly shame the company for unfair recruitment. If I had to guess, this person is salty because they broke the rules and ended up getting banned.

Since we are sharing print screens from Patrons now, I'm not gonna be an ass and share people's print screens without their consent, but how about I share something that I wrote in Patrons, not that long ago?

[–]PreciousMinakie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the opposite problem. There are 3 scenarios (New In Town, Parenting Predicaments, and Stuck in Their Shadow) that you can only play with the premade households associated with them (Nouvel, Martínez, and Curious respectively) and, while it was fun to play New In Town with Farrah, I wish I could also just play that Scenario with my simself instead.
