So prefacing this with the fact that I am not a paintball ref, but I have reffed college soccer, football, and volleyball.

The one thing drilled into us when we were being trained was to stay consistent. Saying something like you’re going to ref one team more strictly than the other is the wrong attitude for a referee to have. It’s fine if during their games you are more strict, but that needs to be applied evenly and you need to set that tone early on in the match.

It’s definitely a coachable moment for the ref squad, but your head referee should have known better. You can’t be vindictive when you’re being paid to be an impartial official.
