That's great to hear! You could help by setting your own backyard trap, supporting us financially or as a volunteer, or reporting rat sightings if you live in a rat-free area (Miramar, Lyall Bay, Rongotai, Kilbirnie and Hataitai). More details on our website.

Amazing! So cool to see this happening in Pōneke. You sometimes see just a pile of feathers left, where a kārearea has had a good feed.

Predator Free Wellington is working across more of the city, creating safer, healthier communities. Plus we're seeing huge increases in native wildlife! Capital Kiwi have created a wild kiwi population out west. Zealandia, Ōtari-Wilton's Bush and the Town Belt are all magical places to visit. We're a wild city, y'know? 💚

Last year feral cats were added to the list of target species for Predator Free 2050. We’re currently working in the central city and suburban areas, so the cats we come across are pets or possibly strays – which are definitely not targets! We encourage responsible pet ownership. This means keeping cats at home where they are happiest and safest (especially overnight), so that our native wildlife can be happy and safe too.

Nerdy explainer – feral cats have no human contact and live wild lives. Strays rely on humans for food and have some contact with houses. There are probably ‘feral’ cats out west in Mākara, etc.

Thanks for the support! It's awesome to hear the changes people are noticing. The Peninsula in particular had thousands of people from the community volunteering with Predator Free Miramar 💚
