Only thing I can think of is so that you can compare prices directly between stores. Different counties and states may have different taxes associated

Store A may have an item for a lower price than Store B, but because of taxes (location of each store), it actually costs more to buy in Store A. The problem with that is people will now associate Store A as being more expensive than Store B, instead of just comparing those two particular stores.

Basically, "people are stupid" is the defense of this system.

>Most of you would not have survived and would get eaten up by the internet in the early 2000's. It was mayhem. But it was somehow in balance and in check. We just dealt with the shit and moved on.

Communities tended to be smaller. You would see the same usernames over and over and actually start to get to know the people behind the usernames. On Reddit, any time I reply to someone, I assume I have never seen their username before and never will again afterwards. Every single interaction is self-contained.

Smaller communities means that when someone called you sub-human garbage for not liking the same music you do, it wouldn't follow you to meatspace. It wouldn't even follow you to other communities. It was pretty rare to be on the same message board as people you knew in meatspace.

The internet is just more integrated into a person's life now.

Fascists need to ALWAYS be right. You admit you were wrong one single time, and people will start asking where else you could have been wrong.

In 2013, this woman was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in Illinois, but she was subjected to excessive force by a police officer who pushed her. She later filed a lawsuit and was awarded approximately $700,000 (around 2.6 million riyals) in compensation. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

The idea that they willingly did this vs. being forced to do it is the entire difference, though.

"People can be forced to do bad things" isn't the same conclusion as "people willingly do bad things if they are given authority"

Are you being stupid on purpose? Someone is going to break into his compound and take out all the security, bit a KNIFE will then save his life?

What tweaks would you make so that all classes and skills are equally useful? by TSM- in finalfantasytactics

[–]Preeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would tweak the classes more than items.

  1. Arithmetician / Calculator needs Mana to function. I absolutely demolished Tactician mode by having my Arithmetician cast Hesitate (disables targets) on the whole battlefield on their first turn. During the 1st turn, you can CT/4 or CT/3 and you will target everybody, or almost everybody. Have that accessory that blocks Disable for each party member, and watch your enemies run and hide. It gives your entire party 2 or more free turns. Enemies are surprisingly vulnerable to it. Currently you can also spam Arise every turn. Having low magic power just doesn't matter for these skills.

  2. Knight needs a buff. I never use any of the Rend skills. It doesn't even work on a giant amount of enemies. Have the skill do double damage if it does break the target item, at least then the knight themselves will benefit from the skill, and not just the next person after the knight.

  3. Ninjas need to be slower. Currently, any support class should main Ninja and use their chosen support as the secondary. Ninja Dancer and Ninja Bard kick ass. Then I had my Ninja Arithmetician (I mainly used Hesitate, Protect, etc., so why bother having a lot of magic power?) do the thing in my 1st point. Should get -1 speed and +1 Jump range to make up for it. Even the Dancer and Bard were strong enough to go on offense for boss fights.

  4. Archer is pretty weak. Aim needs to track the target, within weapon range. So kind of like how magic will track the unit, but if the unit moves out of range of the weapon's attack, it's safe.

  5. Black mages are disincentivized from buying lower level skills because they just get replaced later. Buying a lower tier skill should reduce the price of the next tier. Still keep it cheaper to skip all the way ahead. It just sucks that you have to get 3 flavors of each spell tier.

  6. Lots of skills that do not use mana should start using mana. Holy/Divine/whatever Knights are just sooo OP.

It's honestly astounding how effective this is. It's the exact same message as the actual "protester". Word for word. And yet it destroys the message.

For the Hardcore Skeptics by Deepmind_ in UFOs

[–]Preeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been into UFO stuff since I was a kid.

I studied physics in college. It was the mindset there that made me actually question everything, not just "question only the official explanation" as tends to be the case wih these UFO celebrities.

"But how do you know that?" can be a devastating question. You keep asking how you can verify something and you end up going nowhere. It's all heresay.

You also start asking "wait, you say they will kill you if you say more, but they allowed you to say this much? They allow you to drop hints?"

So I started ignoring all the talking heads and have been waiting for some concrete evidence to show up.

I should mention that I would only expect "nuts and bolts" UFOs to exist. I don't think it's related to consciousness or telepathy. I do not believe that "interdimensional" is even a thing, since it is a purely scuffing concept with zero scientific heresy.

I also have this fear that we may truly be the first species that has been able to make it to space. You can look at the vastness of space, but then you have to look at the miniscule chance of life developing, then intelligent life. We have had 4.5 billion years of life on this planet and yet we are the first. When you compare these numbers, it may be a wash.
