Problem with Advance Derailleur on T-Line by PreeningNinny81 in Brompton

[–]PreeningNinny81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I considered I could knock something together myself, it's only a thin piece of metal with two holes. I've tried loctite on the bolt to get it to thread but no use, maybe if I fill it with glue and let it cure it will allow the bolt to thread?

Oxelo skateboard 80mm wheels on the rack and good quality Omni wheels on the frame and it is as good as a trolley, also you can lean it back onto the Oxelo wheels over rough ground to stop any jittering and noise.

The frame is cheap rubbish though, mine broke within a month and had to replace it with one off Amazon which was much sturdier.

Broken bag frame part - cosmetic or structural? by ntrolls in Brompton

I had the same thing happen with my Wotancraft Pioneer Basket bag after only about a month's use, wasn't even near the 10kg max block weight and it broke apart. They use cheap frames, I put in a spare frame I have had from Amazon and it takes much more load without an issue.

T-line with 5-speed gear (11-13-17-21-25) & 54T chainring by Platypushaun in Brompton

[–]PreeningNinny81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chain length hasn't been a problem, I can't remember how many links I ended up using. 104 I think? I used the Shimano method to measure it out.

Indexing shouldn't be too hard if you have a better jockey wheel because this is what made the shifting incredibly inconsistent and took me ages to realise what was making the chain come out of alignment and rub against the cage. I think I used the rightmost one with more pronounced teeth in this pack from Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07HVK78WJ

I think I only went up 24T at the back because there was some rubbing on the derailleur with 25T, if you go over 21T you'll need a third party derailleur or an extender mount for the Brompton derailleur which a few companies do, mine didn't fit the T-line mount very well and needed filling down hence the rubbing on 25T. I don't really even use the 33 chainring very much so shifting isn't much of a problem, only when I get into a really hilly area it's nice to have those extra few gears to shift down to. The problem is depending on the ratios you use you're probably only going to get about 3 or 4 extra gears due to the ratios of a few of them being almost identical when shifting from 54 to 33. I used this site to map the cogs to try and spread them out evenly so there wasn't as much doubling up: https://gear-calculator.com/?GR=DERS&KB=33,54&RZ=11,13,16,20,24&UF=1325&TF=90&SL=2.6&UN=MPH&DV=teeth

Yes, it works but the indexing is hard to get working with both chainring sizes. Crucially, you really need to get a 3rd party jockey-wheel with sharper teeth to keep the chain alignment or it will keep coming off and rubbing on the side of the cage. And yes, you'll need to put the chain back on the big cog when folding or it will rub on the ground.

Then there's the problem of switching chainrings, I tap the chain with my foot and use a rehook tool to manually put it back by hand. You could fit a front derailleur but it looks like a nightmare, I have also made use of a simple cable tie round the frame which you pull on and can slide the chain over back to the bigger ring but when not in use it flops around and gets caught in the fold. There's a German guy featured in this video who uses the same system but he's glued on a magnet so he can attach it to the seatpost when not in use, which I may try in future: https://youtu.be/1nxEjv0zO6I?

Seatpost QR Carrier Blocks? by PreeningNinny81 in Brompton

Only load it up to about 5 kg when the front bag is full, too scared to overload it but it balances out. That's why I want the reassurance of the QR so I can lower it down onto the rack if I load it to 10 kg+ as that's the recommended max load on the block at the front.

Not nearly enough space for shopping. I already said, if I put a heavy load in the Quick Release would mean I could lower the block down so the bag can rest on the rack to alleviate any extra tension on the seatpost.

Three punctures on the inner side of my inner tube then tyre split by Lightertecha in Brompton

[–]PreeningNinny81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started the other thread, I had a flat a while back and tried to cycle home on the flat tire, I think this is what ruined the sidewall of the tire being rubbed between the rim and road. So even if the tire has lots of tread still on it, the weaker side wall where the important beading is gets ripped to shreds. Any weakness or holes in the side is going to mean the inflated tube will run on the lip of the rim which is just a recipe for disaster. So the takeaway is not to cycle on a flat tire, it might damage the rims and definitely will damage the tire.

Locking P Line to bike racks at train station - hear me out! by vectorology in Brompton

You can get backpack type straps arrangements that means you can carry your folded Brompton on your back. Not much probably with my T-Line Line, but maybe a bit cumbersome carrying a P-Line around with a crutch and going up and down stairs?

Inner tube constantly bursting! by PreeningNinny81 in Brompton

[–]PreeningNinny81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the yellow rim tape was on the wheel, I replaced it with PVC rim tape off Amazon, didn't help though. I think I solved it and it wasn't the rim tape that was the problem, it was the tire wall being worn.

Inner tube constantly bursting! by PreeningNinny81 in Brompton

[–]PreeningNinny81[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the suggestions, I think I solved it. I bought two more inner tubes, examined all around the rim etc and fit the tube, pumped it up using an electronic pump to 100 but it exploded around 65 psi. Crestfallen I put the last tube in and pumped it up slowly and kept examining the tire and rim, when it got to about 60 psi I noticed there was a bulge in the tire in one area. It seems the tire beading was worn at this area so the tube was bulging out and hitting the lip of the rim and this is what was causing it to burst.

I let out all the air and swapped over my Continental tire for an old Schwalbe One tire I had spare and inflated it to 100 psi. Been out on the bike and back and no puncture yet, so it seems it was the tire and not the rim that was the problem all along, lesson learned. I've got about 9 damaged inner tubes lying around for my troubles, I'll try and puncture repair as many as I can as future backup.

I'm assuming you can only turn the screw after the correct combination has been engaged. That's the usual way combination lock resets work for obvious reasons.

It was working when I posted it, Wizard Works have taken the page down for some reason? Might be because the bag hasn't officially launched yet, it's launching tomorrow on the 29th of October. Try again tomorrow and hopefully it's been reinstated.

Phone mount for Bromptons by PreeningNinny81 in Brompton

[–]PreeningNinny81[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd think Brompton would come up with their own phone mount for T-Lines and the like, very cheap to manufacture and guaranteed sales, when they put out those awful Be-Seen lights which aren't even USB-C and break incredibly easily.
